JOB DESCRIPTION

For Project: Technical Assistance to the Energy Program (Wala Malawi)

That supports the modernisation and industrialisation of the economy of Malawi and of the electricity sector by implementing the necessary reforms and promoting private sector investments.

Our technical assistance supports the industrialization and diversification of the electricity sector by implementing reforms and promoting private-sector investment. Our assistance is part of a wider program called the Malawi Energy Program (Wala Malawi), a central component of the Team Europe Initiative, “Green Growth for Malawi,” which supports the resilient transformation of Malawi’s economy and energy systems.

Sample Activities

  • Ensure that effective and efficient policies and legal and institutional frameworks will improve access to energy as well as strengthen the coordination between energy agencies.
  • Enhance governance and strategic planning of investments in the national grid, including secured financing of high-priority projects.
  • Increase diversification and productive use of renewable energy with private sector participation.
  • Increase the participation of women and people with disabilities in the green and digital economies.

DAI is looking to recruit Key Expert 2 – Power and market operations expert (Replacement)

Qualifications and skills

  • University degree in an engineering discipline or similar.
  • An advanced university degree in an energy related field will be considered an advantage.

General professional experience

  • A minimum of 10 years professional experience in fields related to this contract.

Specific professional experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in providing capacity building and/or consultancy services in energy systems (i.e. connection of renewables to distribution systems) and/or transmission and distribution networks. The expert shall demonstrate experience in at least one but preferably two of the following areas:
    • Experience working on technical aspects of power sector restructuring;
    • Experience in electricity planning (generation, load forecasting, and network systems expansion);
  • In-country experience in Sub-Saharan Africa may be considered as an asset.

Starting date: ASAP

End of the project: January 2027

Input: around 200 working days (full-time for 1 year till Jan 2027)

Location: The place of posting is Lilongwe (mandatory)
