The UK-Vietnam recently upgraded our bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with trade and investment as one of its key pillars which marked a significant milestone in our bilateral relationship. The UK’s membership in the CPTPP further strengthens this partnership. Viet Nam will chair CPTPP in 2026 which presents an important opportunity to deepen engagement on trade and economic issues. The Trade Team at the British Embassy in Hanoi is seeking a proactive, organised and engaged individual to support the trade policy and wider trade team across key workstreams, including the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), the annual UK-Vietnam Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), and CPTPP-related initiatives. The successful candidate will play a vital role in coordinating events, visits, and reporting to ensure smooth delivery of these priorities and effective UK participation during Viet Nam’s CPTPP chairmanship. The trade intern will also work closely with the wider team to help deliver wider trade activity including trade promotion missions, events and business engagements. The trade intern can be expected to get involved with a range of projects across the team and support the team in logsitics, translation, administrative tasks and wider plans of the trade team.

  • Coordinating events, visits, and translation for trade policy focused events including activities in Vietnam’s Chairmanship year of CPTPP.
  • Assist in the organisation of bilateral trade dialogues: the annual Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) and UKVFTA Trade committees.
  • Prepare briefing, presentations and other materials for trade events.
  • Support development and delivery of the trade teams communications plan.
  • Support the teams trade policy reporting and research.
  • Translating trade materials into Vietnamese / English for external and internal use.
  • Support the wider trade team with logistical, admin and minute support.
  • Support the wider trade teams delivery of trade promotion activities including administrative support for visits and events.

Working patterns:

Full time – 39.5 hours per week with one hour lunch. Mon-Thursday 08:30–16:45, Friday 08:30–15:00. The Embassy has a smarter working policy and is committed to offering flexible working patterns balanced with the operational requirements of the role.

The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.
