The roster of journalists will serve as human resources repository from which the Country Office can draw pre-vetted, well qualified professionals quickly and efficiently for specific assignments.

The required services will include provision of multimedia journalistic services in Serbian and English languages, documenting UNICEF Serbia’s advocacy and programmatic activities and their impact on children, adolescents, and youth.

How can you make a difference?

Under the direct supervision of the Advocacy and Communication Officer and the Senior Digital Communication Associate, the journalist will produce human interest and/or feature stories in text and video formats in English and Serbian languages, ensuring full alignment with UNICEF’s communication strategy, visibility standards and branding guidelines.

Detailed work assignment description:

Task 1: Write news notes, feature and/or human-interest stories both in Serbian and English languages:
– Produce video content in Serbian and English, including short videos and standard videos up to 3 minutes based on brief provided by UNICEF.
– Produce multimedia packages that combine video and written story deliverables.
– Conduct field filming, including capturing footage, conducting interviews, and gathering story material on location.
– Prepare supporting production materials, such as shot lists, scripts, interview notes, and transcripts.
– Edit video content and prepare final outputs in all required formats (16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5).

Deliverables:
– 700–1,000-word human-interest or feature story in Serbian and English.
– News notes as per request.

Task 2: Produce a Short Video (up to 1 minute):
– Shoot video footage for 1 video.
– Write shot list, scripts and production notes, and interview transcripts.
– Edit video materials to produce a video in Serbian and English, up to 1 minute.
– Subtitle the video and add supers in Serbian and English.
– Include voice over when required in Serbian and English.

Deliverable:
– 1 video, up to 1 minute, in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, and 4:5 formats.

Task 3: Produce a Standard Video (up to 3 minutes): 1 to 2 shooting days:
– Shoot video footage for 1 video.
– Write shot list, scripts and production notes, and interview transcripts.
– Edit video materials to produce a video in Serbian and English, up to 3-minutes.
– Subtitle the video and add supers in Serbian and English.
– Include voice over when required in Serbian and English.

Deliverable:
– 1 video, up to 3 minutes, in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, and 4:5 formats.

Task 4: Produce two Standard Videos each up to 3 minutes – 2 to 3 shooting days:
– Shoot footage for 2 videos.
– Write shot lists, scripts and production notes, and interview transcripts.
– Edit video materials to produce 2 videos in Serbian and English, up to 3 minutes each.
– Subtitle the videos and add supers in Serbian and English.
– Add voice-over in Serbian and English when required.

Deliverables:
– 2 videos, up to 3 minutes, in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, and 4:5 formats.

Task 5: Produce Multimedia Package – 1 Shooting Day

– Edit video materials to produce 1 video in Serbian and English, up to 3 minutes.

– Subtitle the video and add supers in Serbian and English.
– Add voice-over in Serbian and/or English when required
– Write a feature or a human-interest story in Serbian and English languages and include photographs.

– Subtitle the video and add supers in Serbian and English.
– Add voice-over in Serbian and/or English when required
– Write a feature or a human-interest story in Serbian and English languages and include photographs.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Minimum five years of professional experience in journalism, media production, or storytelling for specific audiences.
  • Proven ability to develop multimedia materials and identify compelling human-interest stories.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in Serbian and English.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver assignments under tight deadlines.
  • Strong editorial judgment, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in field conditions.
  • Experience in working on assignments for UNICEF or other development and humanitarian organizations is an asset.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF’s visibility and brand standards is desirable.

The successful candidates will be included in the UNICEF local roster of journalists for a period of 3 years. Entry into the roster system does not mean that a contract with UNICEF is guaranteed. This will depend on forthcoming needs. Where a request for services arises, UNICEF will approach selected journalists from the roster with a specific assignment and check their interest and availability.
