National Consultant – Agronomy

About IRRI
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

Job Purpose

IRRI has extensive experience in developing e-extension tools and other information and communications technology (ICT) based applications that support and enhance farmers’ and policy makers’ decision making to improve the management of rice-based systems. These tools and applications were developed with the support of public and private sector partners in different countries like Vietnam, India and the Philippines, to name a few.

This position will be based in Lao and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Lao.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Co-develop the the content for the E-extension
  • Conduct the needs assessments
  • Co-Developing the contents
  • Translate the contents to LAO lanaguage
  • Technical report for the E-platform developed
Qualifications
  • PhD in Agronomy with at least 3 years experience in relevant works/ projects
  • MSc in Agronomy at least 6 years experience in relevant works/ projects
Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Fluent in English
  • Fluent in Lao

Preferred

  • Preferred background knowledge on horticulture
