Position Overview

The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (the Global Partnership), hosted at the United Nations Foundation, is a dynamic international network bringing together over 650 partners including governments, international organizations, private companies, civil society organizations, and many others.  We make connections and broker partnerships to improve data production, access, and use to drive better decisions to end poverty, improve environmental sustainability and advance equal opportunities for all.  The Global Partnership Secretariat, within which this role is based, supports the network by convening and connecting partners to catalyze solutions to development issues and leverage the power of data to change minds, policies, and lives for the better. Our aim is to ensure that data can be put to good use to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Program Manager will be responsible for supporting the strategy and work of the Global Partnership in the LAC region. This includes supporting regional and country level engagements and brokering multi-stakeholder partnerships to address key data gaps and challenges; following up on those partnerships and ensuring follow-through; driving the Global Partnership’s partner engagement, networking, cross-country learning, collaboration, and trust-building in LAC; and supporting the Global Partnership’s political strategy around the value of data as critical infrastructure for sustainable development. The Program Manager will also be responsible for advising the Global Partnership secretariat on needs and dynamics in LAC and among the LAC members of the Global Partnership.

The LAC Program Manager is a dynamic and well-rounded individual who excels at building relationships and fostering partnerships and is passionate about leveraging the power of data to change minds, policies, and lives for the better. This position will be central to driving greater regional engagement and delivering support to countries from a range of partners and collaborations.

This position is based in Washington, DC or remote.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with the Global Partnership secretariat to support execution of a regional strategy and workplan to strengthen data ecosystems in LAC
  • Build and strengthen partner relationships, ensuring that the Global Partnership is delivering value to its partners and that partners are able to contribute effectively
  • Facilitate connections across countries in LAC and with regional organizations to share experiences and foster learning in strengthening data ecosystems
  • Lead or support country and regional capacity development programs and events on data in LAC.
  • Work closely with the Global Partnership’s Programs Team to intersect with country partners through the country engagement strategy and to identify points of synergy that further country data plans for sustainable development
  • Work closely with the Global Partnership’s Programs Team to implement and monitor progress of country workplans
  • Support and engage with Global Partnership partners to broker collaborations in response to country needs and ensure continued follow-up and delivery
  • Build relationships with policymakers within and outside government to enhance political support for strengthening data production, analysis and use
  • Support the development of use case studies and data stories about innovation in the use of data and technology to support sustainable development and social good with a particular focus on LAC.
  • Track major regional events and processes related to data for sustainable development and advise the Global Partnership secretariat on appropriate entry points for it
  • Support the development of an outreach strategy with the Programs Team to grow the profile and stature of the Global Partnership in the region
  • Represent the Global Partnership as needed, at public events including in country engagements with our country partners
  • Other duties as assigned

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree required, specialty in public policy, data science, statistics, international development, economics or other relevant field preferred
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with policy influence in LAC on data, data science, statistics, or international affairs preferred
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in both English and Spanish
  • Prove track record of building cross-sectoral partnerships that deliver results
  • Ability to manage partnership relationships with diplomacy, seeking win- win solutions
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents with diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience managing or developing programs and strategies in LAC
  • Experience designing workshops and other events with country government officials and extended stakeholders to understand data needs and drive outcomes
  • Excellent writing, editing, interpersonal, and oral communications skills
  • Creativity and a strong knowledge of new ways to communicate about data
  • Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines
  • Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations with a knack for convening stakeholders across varied sectors
  • Highly organized; delivers results in a fast-paced environment
  • A willingness to travel, domestically and internationally (around 25-35%, depending on needs)
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle
