CHAI’s Global Malaria and NTD Programs

 

CHAI’s global malaria and neglected tropical disease (NTD) program provides direct technical and operational support to countries around the globe to strengthen their programs and reduce the burden of preventable, treatable diseases. We support governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of illnesses and deaths worldwide in the short-term and accelerating progress towards elimination of malaria and NTDs in the long term.

Senegal Program Overview

 

The CHAI Senegal office has been working with the Ministry of Health (MoH) since 2018. The team has worked with the National Programs for HIV, Non-Communicable Diseases, Universal Health Coverage, Mother and Child Health and has recently engaged the National Program for Neglected Tropical Disease (NTDs). CHAI aims to build sustainable access to timely and high-quality information across relevant levels of the health system and help programs to routinely use data and generated analytics to inform programmatic and strategic planning and operations.

 

Position Overview

 

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated and mission-driven individual to work as a NTD Senior Analyst to implement intensified activities which will aim to improve the quality and timeliness of the collected information, make information and analytics more accessible to the NTD program and in-country stakeholders leveraging existing tools, platforms, and systems, and strengthen the use of information by facilitating routine data review and improving analytics for decision-making and planning. The Senior Analyst will work closely and provide effective technical support to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National Program for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD). Immediate activities in Senegal include supporting digitization of campaigns, promoting the use of data for NTD efforts, and strengthening the surveillance system for NTDs.

 

 

This Senior Analyst must exhibit a passion for results, a commitment for excellence, a willingness to provide support to different tasks, and the capacity to facilitate high-level strategic discussions with a multi-cultural, multidisciplinary set of actors. The successful candidate will need to possess strong communication, organizational and analytical skills and be able to work independently to drive implementation. The candidate will report to the Senegal Program Manager for NTDs and work closely with CHAI global teams, government national programs and key stakeholders to design and manage implementation of context-appropriate strategies and approaches.

 

The successful candidate will support programmatic aspects of CHAI’s Senegal work and act as a trusted partner to government health officials and partners. Responsibilities

The Senior Analyst will support the NTD program to:

  • Identify opportunities for data use and digitization of national campaigns (e.g., mass drug administration etc.), and build a plan and vision for integrated campaign digitization
  • Explore useful analysis and tools for decision-making that are not fully leveraged, assess the operational and financial feasibility of implementing solutions
  • Support operational requirements gathering, including defining and understanding needs and gaps in campaign operations, identifying areas to address through digital solutions and areas that may need parallel operations strengthening by MoH departments and local partner support
  • Select, enhance, and customize context-appropriate campaign tools for Senegal
  • Promote integrated campaign tools and platforms progressively implemented with across campaign and embedded within routine health systems
  • Conduct routine monitoring and evaluation to understand value and impact of digitizing and integrating campaigns
  • Develop a sustainability plan for long-term maintenance and use of digital platforms, including use of a network of local partners
  • Provide day-to-day program management support to the NTD program
  • Support the Senior Program Manager in shaping CHAI’s overall NTD strategy for the country, participate in the development of clear operational plans for execution, and continuously identify opportunities for CHAI to add value and maximize the impact of the NTD program
  • Coordinate meetings and facilitate knowledge sharing between the government program and partner organizations in the region to ensure coordination
  • Liaise with CHAI’s global and regional teams to ensure strong communications and timely delivery on cross-cutting project activities
  • Contribute to the development resources and best practices to share lessons learned across teams, and synthesize and disseminate findings through high-quality presentations, reports, and publications
  • Additional responsibilities as required and assigned by the direct line manager

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in relevant field like business management, public health, policy, or science and 3+ years of relevant work experience in a demanding, results-driven environment; preferably public health and/or business consulting
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and analytical capabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong competence in making persuasive presentations and written reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in data management and data analysis
  • Ability to be effective, calm, and flexible in high-pressure situations, to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to effectively prioritize
  • Experience living or working in resource-limited countries
  • Fluency in French and good command of English (written and oral)

Advantages:

  • Understanding of disease surveillance (including surveillance platforms) with knowledge of global health issues
  • Proven experience in implementing technology-based solutions with users, preferably for disease surveillance and in low- and middle-income countries
  • Knowledge of NTD or other global infectious diseases
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies for data collection and reporting, data integration, and data visualization and analysis
