Your team

Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.

Your role

Under the oversight of a Product Owner and for specific air traffic control simulator component(s), you role will be to:

  • Assist with the definition of product component(s) roadmap and support with studies on the evolution of air traffic control simulation facilities.
  • Support with the collection of users and stakeholders needs and to the definition of the functional requirements of the component(s).
  • Contribute to the solution design and when delegated to suppliers, audit their responses.
  • Monitor the delivery progress of the system’s component development.
  • Perform the functional acceptance (including testing phase) and quality check of supplier’s deliveries in compliance with defined processes and system requirements (e.g. development, quality, security, etc).
  • Interact closely with suppliers and internal technical teams on activities, and report on a regular basis on progress, risks, obstacles, etc.
  • Follow up on supplier’s invoicing and ensure execution of activities within the agreed budget and contract.
  • Contribute to projects, tasks forces and working groups as required.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Post secondary education in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Sciences, etc).
  • Internal candidates should check on the intranetto see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience.
  • Experience with the application of modern software development methodologies and standards in large-scale software systems (e.g. web or cloud-based computing, open source, UX design, etc…).
  • Experience or knowledge of mission critical systems, in particular Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, simulators, training systems,… would be an asset.
  • Experience or knowledge in Agile methodology, managing product backlog and associated tools (Jira).
  • Knowledge in one or several of the following area(s) would be an asset:

o Knowledge on Azure Stack, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Istio.
o Knowledge in software development and/or software architecture in cloud applications.
o Knowledge of ATM/ANS, CNS, APT, AU, UAS/U-Space, NM.

    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications .
