About IRRI

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

 

Job Purpose

 

We are currently looking for a full-time Web App Developer who will work on developing the rice pest and pathogen monitoring app, PathoTracer.

Key outputs/deliverable:

  • A dynamic web application that is based on the existing prototype that was developed using the R programming language
  • Update and maintain plant pathology and host plant resistance group website
  • Develop a mobile app for PathoTracer

This engagement will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

The successful candidate will be engaged for an initial one-year contract, with possibility of extension.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • With reference to the existing R code which gives PathoTracer its present functionality, develop a new app using a suitable programming language that is supported by IRRI IKS
  • Develop and maintain web pages/sites for information dissemination for stakeholders on PP-HPR website for professional extension
  • Ensure up-to-date links to various web sites and publications referenced in PP-HPR
  • Research and implement new methods of knowledge management delivery
  • Develop and maintain PP-HPR website
  • Provide technical expertise in creating web pages, templates for web publications and multimedia presentations, databases and other course materials to support PP-HPR needs in close coordination with content experts

 

Qualifications

 

  • Has experience in developing interactive web applications

 

Skills Required

 

Mandatory

  • Proficient in at least two programming languages that are suitable for web app development
