Context
Humanitarian needs are increasing, aid budgets shrinking, and progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals went backwards for the first time in 2022. The aid sector needs to think differently about how it designs and delivers humanitarian and long-term development aid.
In this environment, NORCAP is working to enable partnerships and innovations to increase impact and scale – not only through increased capital, but also capacity and technical expertise. This spans from working on strengthening the multilateral system to strengthening the capacity of, and leadership by, national and local authorities and civil society, to engaging with the private sector.
Hence, we are looking for someone with solid experience and understanding from working on supporting organisations to develop new opportunities which aim to innovate within the aid sector. Someone that has experience with managing up, across and on leading teams.

What you will do
As Head of Innovation and Business Development at NORCAP, you will be responsible for managing a team of three professionals who each bring their unique experience and competence that operationalises and delivers on the following two key strategic enablers, in support of NORCAP achieving its mission:
Grow partnerships, diversify resources
- Grow partnerships and deepen NORCAP’s engagement with key institutional donors.
- Oversee the operationalisation of NORCAP’s fundraising strategy to ensure that the organisation diversifies funding and achieves growth target ambitions.
- Support and build structures to professionalise fundraising culture and partnership approaches across the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding pillars.
Build the future with innovation
- Responsible for helping NORCAP deliver its strategy through improving its ecosystem innovation capabilities as the route to improving how aid systems operate.
- Providing formal innovation support across NORCAP to enable appropriate innovation methodologies in design processes, notably in thematic portfolios and project specific interventions.
- Fostering an innovation culture through structured and targeted support for all staff, and as an active member of the Norwegian NGO’s Innovation Network.
Some of your specific responsibilities will include:
- Operational management of business development, innovation and fundraising resources/relevant teams.
- Responsible for driving innovation support to new initiatives and projects in and across sections.
- Responsible for business development to new and existing initiatives and projects in and across sections.
- Responsible for developing, overseeing and reporting on NORCAP’s fundraising strategy.
- Responsible for driving analysis and identification of financing and resourcing trends that will inform the expansion and diversification of the funding base for NORCAP.
- Responsible for coordination and support to fundraising initiatives in and across the sections
- Responsible for joint analyses relevant to innovation and business development.
- Perform other tasks as required.

What you will bring
You will be successful in this role if you have the following;
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience
- Documented experience in driving strategic business development
- Documented results in resource mobilisation and fundraising
- Documented strategic insight and results related to innovation for the aid sector
- Demonstrated experience with planning, initiating, and coordinating new projects
- Relevant higher education and international experience
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Strong knowledge of standard ICT systems and tools
- Strong written and oral communication skills in both Norwegian and English, other languages are an advantage
- Strong ability to motivate and follow up colleagues
- Strong ability to collaborate and communicate
