Organizational Setting

The Department of Management’s Division of General Services (MTGS) provides support functions to the IAEA through its four Sections, namely the Archives and Records Section (ARMS), the Commissary Management Section (CMS), the Facilities Management and General Support Section (FMGSS) and the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS). Among the five Sections, the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS) provides site operation technical and administrative services to the work of the IAEA’s laboratories. SLSS services include facilities, technical, engineering, property and transport management, and site security through its management of the Seibersdorf Protective Force (SPF). The Section has a diverse complement of 35 staff, including technicians, drivers, procurement assistants and IT support. The armed SPF provides around-the-clock security for the site.Among the five Sections, the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS) provides site operation technical and administrative services to the work of the IAEA’s laboratories. Main Purpose

Under the guidance and overall supervision of the Head, Facilities Management and Engineering Unit, SLSS, the Building Maintenance Technician assists with the maintenance of premises and technical installations at the Seibersdorf Laboratories in compliance with safety and security imperatives. The Laboratories premises and technical installations include diversified structures such as Clean Laboratories and Nuclear Materials Laboratories with various controlled areas and clean rooms; fly and mosquito mass rearing with specially air-conditioned compounds; technical workshops (plumbing, carpentry, electricity, painting, mechanics); conference and training facilities.

Functions / Key Results Expected

• Works independently on a diverse array of technical support and maintenance tasks at the Seibersdorf Laboratories in compliance with safety and security measures and within established standards and procedures:
• Assigns work tasks to contractor companies staff and verifies work completed, sets tasks and accompanies them to jobs on site. provides guidance as/if required such as gardeners, etc.
• Monitors the work of external contractors such as painters, construction services, carpenters and verifies the work is executed as per specifications and applicable safety regulations and standards.
• Assists the SLSS Group for Receiving and Procurement with distribution and deliveries of received goods/supplies, ensures accuracy of delivery notes and reports on identified discrepancies.
• Maintains a clear and organized tool set, keeps an up to date record of orders ensuring background documentation to be used in procuring supplies and payment of technical works carried out.
• Provides transportation services for delivery/pick up of Agency equipment, materials and supplies and locksmith services.
• Assists with the coordination of cleaning, grounds keeping and other contractual support services for the Seibersdorf Laboratories on a day-to-day basis.
• Assists the Toxic Materials Technician with various tasks related to Waste Management and the handling of toxic materials. Collects waste containers and empties them in the Laboratory’s waste collection system.
• Refills liquid nitrogen containers in specific laboratories as/if required. Routinely enters Radiation controlled areas to conduct maintenance tasks.
• Acts as a backup for other members of the Facilities Group and receives cross-training in all the Facilities Group’s responsibilities.

The incumbent may perform his/her work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials. Therefore, as an Occupationally Exposed Worker, he/she must be medically cleared by VIC Medical Service and is subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with the IAEA’s Radiation Safety Regulations.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

• High School Diploma/Completed Secondary education.

• Minimum of three years of relevant experience in maintenance and repair work.
• Good understanding of modern techniques utilized in building systems, industry standards and safety aspects an advantage.
• Some experience in upkeep and cleaning of laboratory and related premises would be an asset.
• Good health, physical fitness and strength to carry out strenuous work.

Excellent oral and written command of English and German. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 41939 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks’ annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
