JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Role and responsibilities

The purpose of the WASH Assistant – Distribution position is to provide support to distribution of all WASH NFI’s, kits. The position is also a part of the rapid response mechanism under the new Emergency Preparedness and Response Program.

Generic responsibilities 

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  2. Assist with the implementation of HP WASH portfolio according to plan of action
  3. Implement independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated
  4. Responsible for organizing and delivering tasks in line with priorities and standards
  5. Provide suggestions and showcase initiative in day-to-day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards
  6. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  7. Ensure proper filing of documents

 

Specific responsibilities 

  1. Conduct needs assessments, focus group discussions, community meetings, and other community mobilization activities to identify needs and propose response.
  2. Support WASH team in the implementation of WASH programme activities in the areas of operations which includes distributions, hygiene promotions, solid waste management, and construction supervision.
  3. Support WASH programme in identification targeted locations based on the set criteria for the targeted activity.
  4. Explain to the project participants and stakeholders project implementation methodology, BoQs, designs, scope of work, selection criteria, best use practices for materials and any other related project participants project documents
  5. Carry out regular follow-up visits with selected project participants during and post-project/activity implementation.
  6. Preparation of daily/weekly progress reports, instructions to contractors, variance orders.
  7. Produce site level BoQs and BoQ amendments, Scope of Work in accordance with NRC Technical minimum standards. Document existing condition of site/unit.
  8. Responsible for ensuring that safety of project participants and workers is maintained throughout project implementation and that proper measures are taken to ensure safety concerns are immediately rectified.
  9. Respond to any project beneficiary information requests and complaints as directed by Project Coordinator and M&E unit.
  10. Report on daily activities of contingent workers and complete documentation in regard to attendance and performance.
  11. Participate in activities at distribution sites including registration of recipient households, verification of IDs, and signing of distribution lists by project participants.
  12. Conduct household level M&E activities and develop success stories from project implementation.
  13. Perform any other task relevant to the position as requested by the Project Coordinator and/or the Project Manager.
  1. Enhance complementarity with other NRC CC’s including site management, shelter, education, and protection and strong collaboration with support departments (log, finance, HR, admin)

  • Contingent workers, WASH officer, WASH Coordinator

  • Knowledge and experience of WASH projects (distribution, hygiene promotion, and solid waste management) implementation and implementations during humanitarian emergencies.
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts is considered an asset
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of English is required

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Fluency in Arabic, both written and oral
  • Experience in mobile data collection

Additional Information:

Contract duration: 12 Months

Working hours: 40 hours/week, Sun-Thu (5 days per week)
