Duties and Responsibilities
Background The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is working with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) on an Arab Climate Change Capacity Building Project. The project is implemented under the umbrella of the Arab Centre for Climate Change Policies, which operates in the Climate Change and Natural Resources Sustainability Cluster at ESCWA. General objective The Individual Contractor (IC) will support the building the regional knowledge base on climate finance flows and taxonomies and contribute to a review of existing green and climate finance taxonomies at the regional and global levels. Duties and responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and the overall supervision of the Climate Change and Natural Resources Sustainability Cluster Lead, the IC would be responsible for the following duties, namely to: • Contribute to the preparation of climate change analysis and reports on climate finance flows; • Review existing green and climate finance taxonomies, including collecting information on lessons learned from their development and application; and • Support the preparation, organization and reporting on webinars and meetings related to climate finance and taxonomies, including drafting of information notes, powerpoints and social media.
Qualifications/special skills
A first-level university degree in development economics, finance, climate change or environmental policy is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. No previous work experience is required for this job opening. Demonstrated experience conducting research or analysis on climate finance in developing countries is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
