DURATION: 11 months
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) Nordic Office in Copenhagen works to strategically position WFP as an innovative leader in food security and nutrition with the Nordic governments, political stakeholders, foundations, private sector, academia and other partners in the Nordics and Baltics. The office provides a strategic entry point to the Nordic and Baltic public, political and private partners which collectively were the 4th largest overall donor to WFP in 2023. Through proactive advocacy, effective positioning and engagement, the office creates enabling environments to increase Nordic support to WFP and the broader global food security agenda.
Actively contribute to as well as facilitate the work of senior staff to effectively position WFP with public, private, and external partners from Sweden to attract policy support, resources, technical assistance, and innovative solutions to advance the work of WFP.
Under the strategic and operational guidance of the WFP Nordic Office Director, the Partnerships Officer will perform the following duties:
1. Carry out national political surveillance on issues related to the work and mandate of WFP and report on relevant developments in government policies in Sweden;
2. Provide analysis on donor trends, political environment, resourcing opportunities and potential risks to inform WFP’s positioning with Sweden;
3. Support the Head of Government Partnerships on embassy liaison, Leadership Group briefing and management of global framework agreements, including supporting enquires from Swedish government partners, drafting contribution paperwork, supporting the negotiation of new framework agreements, providing operational updates to advocate for funding, updating forecasts and intel on Salesforce, and maintaining contact databases
4. Identify potential new partners for WFP within Swedish government, private sector, foundations, high net-worth individuals and beyond;
5. Maintain close relationships with existing national partner organizations in Sweden – such as civil society organizations, NGOs, stand-by partners, and others – to jointly position the fight against hunger as a key global priority;
6. Advise WFP Country Offices and Regional Bureaus on funding and partnership opportunities with Swedish partners;
7. Assist in the planning and preparation of visits, meetings, and conferences, briefing material and other assets that support the positioning of WFP vis-à-vis key Swedish stakeholders
8. Work with WFP partnership and communications officers in HQ and the field to ensure donor visibility for Swedish partners;
9. Maintain and further expand WFP Nordic Office’s online support base through: a. Translating, editing, and updating Swedish website b. Creating content, translating, editing, and updating Swedish Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram account c. Generating original and impactful donor specific visibility content to support Nordic fundraising efforts;
10. Perform other related duties, as required.
Quality documentation drafted in an organized and timely manner, per tasks above (briefing materials, contribution agreements, correspondence, donor intelligence research papers). Trusted relationships developed with individual donor counterparts as per tasks above.
Education: Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or other related fields; or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Experience: Professional experience (3-5 years) in an international organization, political organization, NGO or marketing/consultancy firm.
Experience in partnerships, communications and account management within a UN agency, particularly WFP, would be considered an advantage.
Knowledge of the political dynamics and the development and humanitarian funding landscape in Sweden; Expertise in campaigning and fundraising skills from Sweden and other governments foundations, private sector, individuals and other funding streams of relevance to WFP;
Strong presentation skills and demonstrated social media management and communications campaign experience and capacity;
General knowledge of UN policies, rules, regulations and procedures is an asset; Ability to work independently, plan strategically, as well as to organize, assess and coordinate the work of others;
Ability to work harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, government officials, other UN agencies and multilateral institutions.
Skills: Knowledge of humanitarian assistance, emergency food assistance and food systems transformation.
Expertise in fundraising from Nordic governments, foundations, private sector, individuals and other funding streams of relevance to WFP.
Excellent marketing, presentation, and communications skills to cultivate partnerships building in a creative and entrepreneurial manner.
General knowledge of UN policies, rules, regulations, and procedures is an asset.
Ability to work independently, plan strategically, as well as to organize, assess and coordinate the work of others.
Ability to work harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, government officials, other UN agencies and multilateral institutions.
Languages: Fluency in written and verbal communication in English required, with working knowledge of another UN language desirable. Working knowledge of Swedish is an asset.
