In December 1991, the General Assembly adopted Resolution 46/182 designed to strengthen the United Nation’s response to both complex emergencies and natural disasters. In addition, it aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of the UN’s humanitarian operations in the field.

OCHA’s mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to:

  • Alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies

  • Promote preparedness and prevention
  • Facilitate sustainable solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the operations Analyst  the incumbent will undertake the below tasks;
  1. Transportation Services Management
  2. Fleet and Maintenance Management
  3. Knowledge Building and Training
  4. Operational Support and Guidelines

1. Transportation Services Management:

  • Organize and manage reliable and safe transportation services.
  • Ensure reliable and safe transportation services, focusing on achievement of the following results,
  • UNOCHA drivers receive regular briefings on their assignments, duties, and standards of conduct in compliance with the UN Regulations and Rules.
  • Transport services are provided in a timely and efficient fashion to support all UNOCHA functions and programmes on the basis of priorities set by senior staff and in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Daily travel logs are completed in an accurate and timely fashion, and responsible for the issuance of drivers’ overtime on a monthly basis.

2.  Fleet and Maintenance Management:

  • Manages and issues fuel for the OCHA fleet and issues monthly fuel reports and ensures that the system is managed in an efficient and effective fashion.
  • Manages the spare parts warehouse and keeps records.
  • Vehicles and drivers’ appearance are regularly inspected, and drivers are regularly evaluated in accordance with UNOCHA procedures.
  • Vehicle maintenance plans and reports are prepared and filled in a timely fashion.
  • All UNOCHA vehicles are maintained at the highest international standards in accordance with established maintenance schedules.
  • All required documents and supplies, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directories, maps, first aid kits, and spare parts, are present and in good order in all UNOCHA vehicles.
  • Proper procedures are followed in the case of accidents and complaints about drivers.

3. Knowledge Building and Training:

  • Support knowledge building in the motor pool.
  • Support knowledge building in the motor pool, focusing on achievement of the following results,
  • All UNOCHA drivers receive regular training.
4. Operational Support and Guidelines:
  • Dispatcher Guidelines are established in close cooperation with the Operation Analyst and Head of Administration Finance Section.
  • Provide shuttle services and support the daily operations as required

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Completion of Secondary Education. University Degree would be desirable, but it is not a requirement
Experience:
  • Four years of experience as a dispatcher or related clerical experience; four years as a driver or automotive mechanic.
  • Valid Sudanese driver’s license.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, judgment, and prioritization skills are advantageous.
  • Ability to manage complex resource allocation and balancing with minimal supervision is preferred.
  • Proficiency in working with numbers, accuracy, and reporting skills is desirable

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Arabic and English languages.
