Mission and objectives
The FOREST Okyeman project is a joint initiative involving UNDP, WHO, UNICEF, and UNEP, aimed at using the human security approach to accelerate the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Akyem Abuakwa. The project seeks to address key interconnected challenges related to forest degradation by focusing on economic, environmental, political, educational, nutritional, and health insecurities in the region. In line with WHO’s mandate to promote global health and address health-related insecurities, the organization contributed to the project’s objectives by developing a comprehensive community and human security profile of the Okyeman (Akyem Abuakwa) traditional area. The study has been completed, and WHO now aims to publish the key findings and recommendations, emphasizing their relevance to improving health security, environmental sustainability, and the overall well-being of the local population.
