The IW Unit portfolio is successfully enriched in the Umoja IPMR system and reporting is streamlined accordingly and the portfolio’s project documents are well stored or archived and accurate reporting for the QBR – Programme Delivery Report. 2. UNEP’s on-the-ground spatial impact is quantified and reported based on verifiable data and communicated to donors and global audiences in innovative ways.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. Objectives: The GEF International Waters Unit proposes recruiting a Data Analytics Consultant. The objective of the consultancy is to improve the data management system of projects under the Unit’s portfolio through enrichment, documentation, and reporting on the impacts of the portfolio. This will also include the synthesis of the results of the portfolio into visual and spatial/mapping outputs for enhanced visualization to support analytical and communication purposes. Specifically, the consultant will perform the following tasks under the International Waters portfolio: – Contribute to the verification and enrichment of GEF International Waters Unit project data in IPMR to improve the accuracy of monitoring and reporting. – Develop a repository to organize project documents including all phases of the project management cycle (development, implementation, reporting, evaluation, and closure). – Compile all GIS .shp files and other relevant digital spatial data formats of the ongoing projects’ targeted areas in collaboration with the related Task Managers and Program Assistants which are useful during the PIR reporting period. – Contribute to the improvement of other knowledge management and reporting initiatives within the GEF International Waters Unit including through targeted advisory, platform testing, and feedback. – Reporting on activity level, half yearly reporting in IPMR and overall contribution to the Quarterly Business Reports (QBR) – Programme Delivery Report. – Participate in relevant knowledge management meetings within the International Waters Unit. Reporting lines: The consultant will work in collaboration with the Task Managers and Programme Management Assistant under the direct supervision and overall guidance of the Chief of International Waters Unit based in Nairobi. The consultancy will be in Nairobi duty station.
Qualifications/special skills
An Advanced University Degree in one of the following disciplines Environmental Science, Data Science/Analytics, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Mathematics, and Economics. A first university degree with a combination of two years of professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. a) At least 4 years of experience at the national level or 2 years at the international level. b) Experience in data management and analysis or information management with a strong background in project monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of environmental programs is required c) At least two years of professional GIS experience in conducting spatial analysis and map production is desirable d) Good knowledge of Python, Data Visualization, and GIS applications (ArcGIS/QGIS) and other spatial information systems is an asset
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
