Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The International Trade Centre (ITC) is a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization for trade-related technical cooperation in developing countries. The Communications and Events team is looking for a translator to regularly translate content/news articles on its corporate website from English to Spanish throughout the year 2025 on a daily basis. The content would mostly consist of short web news articles, updates, stories but also more elaborate content under ITC’s flagship magazine, Trade Forum. This requires a translator who is familiar with the work and mission of ITC and has in-depth knowledge of ITC’s writing style and content management system. Description of Duties/Responsibilities: The individual contractor will work under the overall supervision of the Digital Communications Officer and in close cooperation with the website content production team and the editorial manager of Trade Forum. The translator will need to translate and self-revise the content provided in English into Spanish. Documents will be provided through collaborative tools, such as Microsoft Teams and within Drupal content management system. The translator will also be required to review content already translated via DeepL, the embedded translation tool. Content will arrive regularly on a daily basis, word count will vary between a few sentences to 400/600 words per piece. The translator has between one and four business days to turn around every content piece depending on the priority, length and complexity. In specifics, the translator should: ● Translate from English into Spanish appropriate to digital communications style (ie. short and dynamic). ● Revise automatically translated content using Drupal content management system. ● Use a business writing style and adapt the English for Spanish-speaking audiences, rather than a literal translation. This requires judgment from the translator and consultation on occasion with the editorial managers. ● Produce articles in a journalistic style, particularly in titles, subtitles and introductory texts within articles. Shorten where necessary. ● Use SEO-friendly terms (Search Engine Optimization) and suggest tags based on ITC website taxonomy. ● Self-revise and proofread the translation for any errors or typos before submission. Copyright Clause: The Consultant has to ensure that s/he has obtained the necessary permissions with regard to intellectual property rights required to perform his/her services under this consultancy contract and for the subsequent dissemination by ITC in any form. Documentary proof is to be submitted to ITC. Should any license fee be due for the use of copyrighted materials of third parties, the Consultant shall request prior written permission from ITC. S/he has further to ensure to obtain accreditation to event(s), if required. ITC champions workforce diversity, inclusion, gender equality and gender parity and considers all qualified persons – of all genders – equally, including those with disabilities, without discrimination or prejudice of any kind.
