The Program

In support of Mercy Corps’ mission, the Corporate Partnerships team manages Mercy Corps’ fundraising relationships with major US companies and foundations. We set bold visions for the positive social change we can create with our partners, provide outstanding partner services and relationship management, and together build meaningful partnerships that provide value to all parties while creating lasting impact for the local communities where we work. Our partnerships span areas including emergency response, climate resilience, technology for development, economic opportunity, food security, and promoting peace and good governance. We work across many teams at Mercy Corps, including marketing and communications, mass market fundraising, the executive office, and with our program and field-based colleagues around the world.

The Position

The Development Officer, Corporate Partnerships provides administrative support for partnership management, team operations support, and donor communications coordination to advance donor cultivation and stewardship and ensure smooth and efficient fundraising operations. This includes responsibility for activities including proposal and partnership materials compilation, editing and formatting; editing and updating donor background materials; coordinating and tracking donor stewardship and communications materials; meeting scheduling and logistics; cross-team knowledge management; coordination and execution for donor events and travel; and operations logistics. This position requires outstanding project management skills and attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and manage to deadline, savvy use of productivity tools, and great communication & collaboration skills. We are seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is looking to grow their skills in corporate fundraising – supporting high-impact Fortune 500 corporate partnerships that contribute to Mercy Corps’ global mission.

Essential Job Responsibilities

PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT ADMINISTRATION – 50%

  • Provide administrative partnership management support for 4 portfolios of corporate partner accounts (each managed by a Director) including but not limited to contact management, inputting proposals into online submission forms, collecting required proposal attachments, meeting scheduling, planning and notetaking, and invoicing.
  • Support Directors & Deputy Directors in compiling, editing and formatting high quality donor materials such as proposals, concepts, pitch decks, digital communications and other general program informational materials.
  • Edit and update partner background briefs.
  • Support relationship managers in keeping records in Raiser’s Edge current and accurate (in partnership with Database Officer).
  • Support the team in organizing and preparing materials and logistics for events (internal & external; virtual & in-person), managing printing projects, as well as with logistics related to donor trips.
  • Other duties as assigned.

OPERATIONS – 30%

  • Maintain a team-wide knowledge management system to store and organize relevant team resources and proposal development tools.
  • Manage the acknowledgement and receipts process for corporate giving.
  • Manage team subscriptions and invoices.
  • Manage IT supplies for the team – tracking, ordering and getting people set up with equipment (in partnership with IT).
  • Manage the annual Global Impact application, in collaboration with team members.
  • Support onboarding of new team members (in partnership with relevant hiring manager), including developing onboarding schedule, securing IT supplies and preparing relevant onboarding materials.
  • Maintain schedule, agenda, and meeting notes for weekly team meeting and other regular meetings.
  • Manage team celebrations (birthday cards, special events, etc.).

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATION – 20%.

  • Support Directors and the Director of Communications in content creation, including writing and formatting high quality donor communications and other general donor stewardship materials.
  • Manage end of year and other complex multi-channel donor communications projects.
  • Manage donor lists and content for outbound communications, particularly around global emergencies and other broad communications efforts, as well as the mass email platform (Campaign Monitor).
  • Maintain and update internal communication team channels, such as the Corporate Partnerships HUB page and Workplace page.
  • Maintain familiarity with Mercy Corps’ library of assets as well as donor-funded projects to pull relevant images and stories.
  • Engage cross-functionally across Mercy Corps to share information and resources to bolster our communications efforts.

Accountability to Beneficiaries

  • Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically
    to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

Reports Directly To: Director, Fundraising Strategy and Services, Corporate & Foundation Partnerships.

Works Directly With: Director & Deputy Directors of Corporate Partnerships, Communications Director – Corp & Foundation Partners, and other Corporate and Foundation team members, as well as other team members across the Development Department.

Knowledge and Experience

  • BA in related field (International Relations, Business, Communications & Marketing, etc.) required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in supporting donor relations and stewardship – preferably corporate partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage to deadline.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with colleague in both remote and in-person work environments.
  • Excellent computer & tech skills (MS 365).
  • Experience in international development work or a demonstrated interest in this field preferred.

Success Factors

The Corporate Development Officer will be detail oriented, comfortable with multi-tasking and have superior project management and organizational skills with a service orientation. They must have the ability to think critically, problem-solve and make good decisions that contribute to the team’s success. They must have a proven ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations, to understand the larger picture while remaining focused on the details and maintain a calm approach under stressful situations. We are looking for someone who is willing to pitch in and help out wherever needed on a fun and hard-working team! Awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural international development work is required.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in Portland, Oregon and it requires up to 5% travel to domestic locations. The expectation is that the position will be available to work in the Portland office in-person 1 or more days per week, with the flexibility for work from home the other days.
