JOB DESCRIPTION

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 650 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Overall purpose of the role:

Your main duties and responsibilities will be to operate safely and conduct first line maintenance (daily, weekly, and scheduled maintenance) on the GCS 200 mechanical demining machine DRC HDP Ukraine staff to any location within area of operation in a safe and timely manner in accordance with HDP standard operating procedures (hereinafter referred to as the SOP) and the current regulations of the Representative Office of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the DRC) and actively and readily available to be deployed to all tasks planned for the Mechanical Demining Team (MDT).

Main Responsibilities:

  • After completing a minimum of 21 days training from DRC HDP on how to operate and maintain the GCS 200 machine while conducting mechanical demining operations be overall responsible to execute all these duties responsibilities detailed on this section below.
  • To conduct the scheduled daily maintenance on the GCS 200 machine.
  • Physically to check for abnormalities on the GCS 200 machine at the maintenance area.
  • To check the overall functionality on the GCS 200 machine designated test area daily before starting operations.
  • Should be required to assist/help the GCS 200 machine mechanic whenever the need arises during breakdowns or scheduled service and maintenance.
  • To ensure the daily log sheets/logbook are up to date and shall always be kept inside the GCS 200 workshop container/vehicle mobile workshop.
  • To be responsible when necessary to inform the Mechanical TA on the GCS 200 machine capabilities regarding the terrain or other environmental changes/challenges to the GCS 200 machine e.g. soil condition, vegetation, and gradient.
  • Be ensure to adhere to minefield or hazardous area rules and regulations.
  • To operate safely the GCS 200 machine as per the manufacturer operation handbook, and according to the DRC HDP Ukraine GCS 200 SOP.
  • Be responsible for immediately informing/alerting or reporting to the MMC TL and MDT Mechanic of any abnormalities to the performance of the GCS 200 machine.
  • To be required to maintain radio contact with the MMC TL.

Required experience and competencies:

  • High school or equivalent desired.
  • Good, speaking, reading and writing skills required.
  • Should have at least 3 years’ practical working experience as a machine operator/mechanic for other types of mechanical demining machines or Earth-moving machinery and heavy-duty vehicles e.g. Bulldozers, Front-end loaders, Excavators, Backhoe, Bobcat etc.
  • Verified training certificates of previous work experience and knowledge required.

Preferably:

  • Heavy duty/light duty verified and approved driving license desired.
  • Preferably English
  • Experience of working on a Humanitarian Mine Action Program desired.
  • Heavy duty mechanic skills desired and will be considered and be an added advantage.

We offer:
Contract length: 3 month renewable after satisfactory probation period.
Level: J non Manager
Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv – Full time based
Start date: 1st May 2024.
