Description

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring an Engineering & DevOps Lead to join our Banking IT team.

The role is based in Basel, Switzerland, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the job

The Banking IT team leads and maintains a software portfolio that supports treasury and asset management activities of the BIS. Our systems support trading, financial messaging, market and benchmark data, data integration and data engineering.

As Engineering and DevOps Lead you will be a key member of the team responsible for the governance and supervising architecture of the Banking IT systems. Together with other business units you will be implementing DevSecOps model and ensuring IT products’ compliance with BIS IT policies.

Principal accountabilities:

Leadership and strategic technical planning

  • Ensure the operational functioning of the unit through effective management and leadership
  • Foster a culture of DevSecOps, agile ways of working and continuous improvement
  • Assist the Head of Banking IT in the strategic planning of the section. Contribute to the budgeting, preparation of the IT work plan and IT project steering

Engineering and architecture

  • Provide engineering and technical leadership to development and product teams across the whole department; coordinate technical roadmaps, together with Product Managers;
  • Constantly improve the engineering practices in Banking IT and take ownership of the engineering excellence of Banking systems
  • Supervise pre- and post-project architecture reviews done by the Senior Lead Architect and sign offs architecture strategic decisions reflected in the multi-year IT product strategies

DevSecOps adoption

  • Provide quality assurance in change management process and take a release management responsibility; develop pipelines and test automation tooling
  • Lead the implementation and support model of test environments
  • Ensures that Development, automation, source code reviews, version control, config, mgmt., logging, CI/CD, penetration testing and other security guidelines of the software development lifecycle are followed by all BIT teams.

Compliance, security and controls

  • Guide and advise teams on the topics of application security and cyber security
  • Oversee and implement 3LOD in Banking IT
  • Acts as a 1LoD control owner for IT related controls

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Strong technical experience, in a role as senior engineer or software developer, gained in banking or financial industry
  • Expertise in test automation framework and tool adoption to complete the automation strategy
  • Experience in leading team – direct or indirect (project teams, service delivery, project management)
  • Recent coding experience – either hands on or reviewing codes
  • Previous exposure to implementing technical strategies as well as leading complex technology transformations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish strong working relationships across different technical teams and business users.
  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
