JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
This position in located in the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Laayoune, in the office of the Chief Engineer.
Responsibilities
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of MINURSO Chief Engineer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Engineering Assistant will apply professional engineering knowledge and expertise in performance of the following duties and responsibilities: • Prepare detailed bill of quantities, design drawings, using AutoCAD, for planned projects and submit for the review and approval of the supervisor. • Take measurements of existing structures, update plans and prepare “as-built” drawings. • Estimate and prepare material requests and submit for the approval of the concerned unit supervisor. • Perform physical verification of all real estate assets and infrastructures, create architectural/usage objects and lease contracts in Real Estate database, monitor related documents, update the records UMOJA and generate related reports when required. • Valuations of AUCs (Assets Under Construction) based on the UN valuation methodology and report the transaction. • Carry out site visits to different locations by air or driving vehicle as directed by the supervisor or as deemed necessary. The visits may include spending overnights in remote camps in the desert. • Follow up the implementation of services by engineering technicians and contractors, report on completion of works in conformity with initial specifications and recommend them for approval. • Perform necessary inspections on the Mission’s facilities in Laayoune and team sites and initiate engineering work request as necessary. • Receive and process daily engineering work requests, create engineering service orders in Umoja and notify concerned unit after approval of the supervisor. • Providing support for other engineering units for the implementation of projects, maintenance and repairing tasks in the mission premises. • Follow up with the respective engineering units, transport section, intermodal freight unit and other sections for the preparation of material lists, collection and delivery of spare parts, materials and equipment to the required destination. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Perform related administrative tasks as necessary.

Education
High school Diploma or Technical/vocational certificate from recognized institution in the field of engineering trades is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A driving license category B is required with experience in driving 4×4 vehicle in harsh terrain.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (03) years of experience in any of the following fields; construction, facilities management, electrical and mechanical, building management, engineering, architecture or related area is required.
