DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is located in the Finance Section in the Governance Services Department and reports to the P-4 Senior Finance Officer, although tasks may be delegated to this position from other Finance Officers within the Finance Section. The position is being recruited to provide additional resource during a critical peak period to allow for focus on WMO’s implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) position.

Within delegated authority Associate Accountants will be responsible for the following duties:

Reviews, approves, reconciles and processes a range of accounting transactions on a regular and recurring basis;
Performs specific account reconciliations and suspense accounts analyses during the year and prepares adjusting entries as required before preparation of financial statements;
Provides input to relevant financial policies and procedures and provides WMO staff with related advice and guidance;
Assist the Finance Section in analysis of master data within the ERP system, in order to support the analysis, cleaning, and migration of data within the current ERP system;
Assists in improving underlying accounting and business processes for their area of responsibility;
Prepare accounting entries and analysis in support of monthly financial closure process;
Researches and analyses information needed to respond to support IOO or External Audit requests;
Performs other related duties as required.

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:

Finance, budget and administrative officers and staff in Headquarters and Regional Offices;
Technical Department staff;
Internal Oversight Office (IOO);
External Auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
First level university degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely related field, coupled with professional certification (e.g. Chartered Accountant, Certified Public Accountant, etc.).
Experience
At least three years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, and general administration, with at least two years in an international organization a distinct advantage. Demonstrated knowledge and prove hands-on experience of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). Experience in the implementation of an ERP system and/or experience in the operational use of Oracle Financials and/or similar systems are definite advantages.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
SALARY AND ALLOWANCES
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 50377
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 46901 (in addition to the net base salary)
