About this position

The Amazon Coordination Unit (ACU) of the IDB is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented consultant to join the team, with strong capacity and experience in operations analysis to perform a variety of operational functions related to the design, implementation and monitoring of Bank-financed projects and technical cooperation.

The unit it is a small and dynamic team, with some division of responsibilities but also an expectation for strong teamwork, proactivity, flexibility, and collaborative spirit. The team works in close collaboration with the Manager for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CSD) at IDB, as well as with specialists and management throughout the IDB and the COFs in Amazonian countries.

What you’ll do:

  • Participate in the development of projects, technical cooperation and other Bank products related to the Amazon Fund for the strengthening of the participation and inclusion of Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendants and Traditional Communities (PIACT) within the framework of the Amazon Unit.
  • Contribute with technical knowledge and experience in the implementation of projects in the achievement of the actions of inclusion of women, indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and local communities in the Amazon region, supporting the project team leader.
  • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of the results matrix and project indicators (outputs, outcomes, impacts), as well as in the preparation of project budgets.
  • Advise and support the different Project Executing Units in the annual and multi-year planning of projects, including financial projections, risk analysis, institutional capacity analysis and project execution schemes.
  • Support in the preparation of periodic progress reports on operations, such as the Project Monitoring Report (PMR), identifying deviations from the original plans, their causes and proposing corrective actions. As well as reports to donors or others.
  • Analyze, report and make recommendations on the status of the project portfolio and disbursement/performance progress.
  • Establish and maintain a close relationship with counterparts in the Executing Units and authorities of relevant public and private entities to provide guidance on various aspects of the Bank and its operations, policies and procedures.
  • Develop the analysis of socio-economic gaps of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ in the Amazon, in coordination with the team leader.
  • Support, coordinate and develop the contracting processes of Technical Cooperations executed by the Bank and led by the Amazon Unit.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s contracting policies applicable to this type of operations, in coordination with the team leaders.
  • Support and complete the annual monitoring reports of operations for their corresponding review and classification, as well as the final reports, in coordination with the team leaders.
  • Systematically raise lessons learned from projects to feedback into the preparation processes for new operations.

What you’ll need:

  • Education: Master’s degree in social sciences or similar. Applied economics, data collection and analysis, research methods, impact evaluation.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in field work and in the implementation of development projects. Knowledge and capacity for intersectoral work and teamwork. Experience working with indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants or related to gender and inclusion issues.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
