JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the United Nations Investigative Team for Accountability of Da’esh / ISIL (UNITAD) and is based in Baghdad, Iraq. The incumbent will report to the Legal Officer of the Office of the Special Adviser. UNITAD was established by the Secretary-General pursuant to Security Council resolution 2379 (2017), according to which it is mandated to support domestic efforts to hold ISIL (Da’esh) accountable by collecting, preserving and storing evidence in Iraq of acts that may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the terrorist group ISIL (Da’esh) in Iraq.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Information Analyst, will be responsible for the following duties: • Help identify areas for potential data searches, research and analysis in support of Member States’ investigations and prosecutions of individuals for international crimes committed by ISIL/Da’esh, such as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide; • Gather and analyze information and evidence in relation to ISIL/Da’esh and the involvement of affiliated individuals in the commission of crimes; • Gather in-depth specific information and conduct database searches on potential persons of interest of political, military or other connection with ISIL/Da’esh, by using information and evidence management processes and systems, including Relativity and iBase; • Collate, evaluate and provide short- or long-term analysis on developments/events affecting the implementation of Mission mandate, using diverse information and evidence sources, including the UN system and UN Country Team (UNCT), Iraqi military/judicial/civilian authorities, national and international NGOs, media and other key stakeholders; • In coordination with information management and information technology specialists, maintain a system for organizing, classifying and storing confidential information and evidence; • Keep abreast with and report on broader judicial and other developments relevant to the Mission; • Present feasible solutions to prevent or manage the threats; • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in International Relations or a related subject is required. A first- level university degree in combination with other relevant academic qualifications and/or experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, civil affairs, humanitarian affairs, human rights, public information/journalism, military, police, security, crisis operations and management, or related field is required. Experience working on Relativity is desirable. Experience working on iBase and Maltego is desirable. Professional experience preparing summary and analytical reports on political, security or other related issues is desirable. Experience working at the international level is desirable. Experience working on conflict-related issues and international crimes is desirable. Experience working in a conflict or post-conflict situation is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is required.
