UNDP is at the heart of the UN’s work on sustainable development and a leader for the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals.
UNDP Jordan’s 2023-2027 country programme seeks to support national efforts in enhancing people’s resilience in Jordan through robust interventions that increase people’s equal access to sustainable resources, enhance green growth opportunities, and advance democratic governance, implementing a portfolio approach cutting across three outcomes focused on systematic transformation in three priority areas: (a) prosperous and productive people; (b) green and safe future pathways for climate action; and (c) holistic and transformative systems/policies and capacities across all sectors.
In 2020, UNDP in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment/Badia Restoration Programme and the Jordan Cooperative Corporation explored the opportunity to establish a permanent platform in Amman to promote the natural and socio-economic values and exhibit the local products of Jordan Badia and its adjacent rural areas. Accordingly, Tripartite agreement was signed through which the Ministry of Agriculture donated 8 donums of land located at one of the most strategic commercial zones in Amman near the 7th circle, the Ministry of Environment/Badia Restoration Programme funded UNDP to design and establish the permanent exhibition.
The project is being implemented on two interlinked phases; the first phase comprises setting up the hardware including the design and construction of approximately 5,000 m2 exhibiting facility in accordance with eco-friendly standards and codes, whilst phase two includes installing the software and the operating programmes.
As the construction of the exhibition comes to its end by April 2024, UNDP in close collaboration with the project partners is preparing for the next phase that aims at operationalizing the exhibition and build its effective and sustainable business model.
