About IRRI

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

Job Purpose

As a Junior Cloud Engineer, you will be crucial in supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud-based systems. You will work under the guidance of the Global Cloud Solutions Architect to ensure the efficient operation of cloud environments, assist in troubleshooting issues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of cloud infrastructure

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities

Assist in the deployment, management, and configuration of cloud resources
Assist in implementing security measures, i.e., IAM permissions, network security and data security, to improve the overall security posture of a multi-account cloud environment
Application of the CIA triad as a baseline for information security
Document issues and solutions to build a knowledge base for future reference
Write scripts to automate infrastructure provisioning and leverage cloud APIs to automate specific tasks
Provide technical support
Work with the research and admin teams to help design and build cloud solutions
Provide recommendation and transfer knowledge to other IRRI staff to increase the institute’s cloud, data, and security proficiency
Understand project requirements, gather information and clarify project objectives
Assess the appropriate tools and follow best practices
Keep up to date with technology and take certification exams
Create proof of concepts and demos of potential technical solutions based on the business’s needs

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or any Engineering Degree with a minimum of 2 years working experience/s

Skills Required

Mandatory

Experience in software development
Good communication skills
Ability to design and innovate solutions based on business needs

Preferred

Some experience with Amazon Web Services
Ability to work with a team
Cloud certifications
