Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Security Training Officer will be responsible for the following duties: ? Provides advice and support to the team leader in managing performance of joint venture trainers and partners who assist in delivery of security courses to ensure that training programmes are delivered in accordance with organizational standards and resources are used cost-effectively in accordance with the Learning and Development Strategy and rules and regulations. ? Collaborates with other parts of UNDSS to ensure that cross cutting issues are incorporated into the design and development of training programmes, including outcomes of the workforce plan, HR strategy and Gender Strategy. ? Coordinates with Department of Field Operations and the Training and Developing Section UN Security Management System Organizations security personnel to ensure the timely nomination and selection of training participants as well as joint venture trainers who may be assigned to deliver particular courses. ? Monitors and evaluates training programmes to ensure learning, impact and quality control and that programmes achieve organizational impact and effectiveness. ? Provides advice on security training programs and implementation to UNSMS managers, UN personnel and partners to share information and best practices to further enhance the impact of security training ? Assesses training needs and designs, develops and delivers a suite of security training courses to meet the identified needs of UNSMS personnel, security personnel and/or managers with security responsibilities in accordance with the assigned workplan and related Implementation timelines. ? Updates online databases to track course participants, performance and expenditure to enable timely reporting to senior management and partners, as requested. ? Assists in preparing and maintaining comprehensive training documentation and data for the use of participants and stakeholders at agreed periods and, as requested, preparing inputs and reports for senior management and other stakeholders. ? Performs other duties as assigned by the Security Adviser.

Requirements: 

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in learning, security management, business or public administration, social sciences, education or related area is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first level degree or diploma from a police or military education institution in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in learning and development, adult learning, training or a related area is required. Experience working in a multicultural and/or international work environment in a field mission or post-conflict environment outside home country is required. A minimum of one year of international experience in security risk management; management and delivery of security training programmes is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Fluency in Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. Note: Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (speak, read, write and understand). Knowledge of equals a rating of “confident” or “fluent” in at least two of the four areas.
