Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Policy Analysis and Development Branch, the Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Economic or sector analysis: ? Monitors economic developments on issues related to financing for sustainable development and identifies recurrent and emerging issues of concern to the United Nations in particular for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. ? Designs and conducts studies of selected issues in economic development and draft resulting reports on the seven action areas of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, as well as in other relevant topics on financing. ? Develops draft policy recommendations pertaining to financing for development. ? Formulates proposals for development strategies, policies and measures for presentation to intergovernmental bodies and others. ? Attends international, regional, and national meetings to hold discussions with representatives of other institutions. ? Organizes expert group meetings, seminars, etc. on financing for sustainable development issues. ? Organizes consultative and other meetings related to the Conference, including proposing agenda topics, and prepares inputs to statements for senior officials, documents, presentations and other substantive inputs; ? Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff. Intergovernmental support ? Provides substantive support on financing for sustainable development issues to intergovernmental bodies (such as the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the intergovernmental preparatory committee) in the organization of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. ? Represents FSDO at international, regional and national meetings. General ? Supports junior staff, reviewing their work and providing feedback. ? Participates in intra- and inter-Departmental undertakings of broader concern to represent the views or interests of the organizational unit. ? Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s service. ? Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.
Requirements:
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in economics or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in policy formulation, application of economic principles in development projects and programmes, programme management or related area is required. Experience on financing for development issues is required. Experience supporting intergovernmental processes, including negotiations and events preparation is desirable. Experience working in the United Nations Development System or a comparable international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
