Within limits of delegated authority, the Graphic Design Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: ? Assists in the design, layout and preparation of information materials, including production of electronically published products for public information campaigns, conferences and publications; in consultation with authors and other relevant staff, establishes graphic design requirements to meet communications objectives; prepares submission schedules for various communications products (e.g. logos, publications, booklets, brochures, banners, social media graphics, posters, newsletters, pamphlets and other material). ? In consultation with relevant staff/units, assists in the planning, design, production, and scheduling of graphic material; assists in providing technical support in electronic formats for the design, layout, and make-up of various communications products, using relevant computer operating systems, software and platforms. ? Participates in initial meetings with clients to discuss graphic design projects; gathers information for substantive content, communication objectives, technical specifications and schedules/deadlines.; creates graphics develops multiple design proposals for review by clients, which may include photographic, illustrative or graphic solutions; manipulates this material prior to preparation of final proofs. ? Determines specifications for electronic and print products including document size, colors, etc.; provides support throughout the production process and ensure that projects are on schedule. ? Assists in the development and maintenance of a storage and retrieval system for artwork and design files (e.g. design concepts, computer files, fonts, color specifications, photographs and illustrations files, etc.). ? Performs other related work as required.

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in graphic design, publication design, and social media graphics is required. Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is required. Experience in the UN system or a comparable international organization is desirable. Experience with designing for global campaigns, publications and events is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
