The Information centre is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience in English and Czech; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves.
The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Head of Office. Internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.
The intern will support the team in the administration and with strategic communication priorities. Duties may include but are not limited to: Assisting in maintaining UNIC digital communication channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), adapting social media assets in Canva, designing and posting Instagram and Facebook stories, subtitling videos; Assisting in editing/adapting content of UNIC Prague’s website; Maintaining database of social media visuals and other graphical elements in Trello; Assisting in maintaining UNIC contact database (MS Excel, Mailchimp); Translating and editing (English-Czech and v.v.); Assisting in organizing UNIC’s public events (education programmes, seminars, conferences, street festivals, job fairs, etc.); Assisting with media monitoring; Assisting in responding to public inquiries and media communication; Assisting with logistics and administrative agenda; Assisting with secretariat functions (incoming mail, phone calls, emails).
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b.
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). – Be computer literate in standard software applications; – Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and – Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
