Purpose and Scope:
The WB Uganda Country Office (AEMUG) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and highly organized professional to serve as a Driver (level GA) based in Kampala, Uganda. The selected candidate will work as part of the administrative team in the country office. The successful candidate will work under the leadership of the Country Manager, with the day-to-day Coordination of the Finance Analyst. The selected candidate will be responsible for provision of proper maintenance of the office vehicles, safe delivery of staff to their respective destinations and timely delivery and collection of office documents as directed.
Roles & Responsibility:
To perform according to expectations, the incumbent would be expected to:
• Transport authorized personnel to/from airports, meetings/appointments, and other official duties, including business travel to/from locations throughout Uganda.
• Drive the assigned office vehicles, ensuring the safety of staff and/or authorized passengers, vehicle and other road users, for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and meet any other transportation requirements.
• Meet official personnel, including mission staff at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
• Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires etc.,
• Perform minor routine repairs and be responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of the vehicle, including arranging for other vehicle repairs as per prevailing procedure.
• Ensure that the vehicle is always clean (interior and exterior, including safety belts) and assist or ensure that all passengers have fastened safety belts.
• Ensure that the vehicle is equipped with First Aid kit and that he/she is trained in providing first aid. Check expiry date for consumables in the kit and seek replacement as appropriate.
• Log official trips as per the World Bank’s policies, including daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes etc.
• Ensure that the vehicle’s documentation is always current, always including display of current insurance cover.
• Observe the traffic rules and regulations.
vAlways check and adhere to security information from the supervisor or the environment for safe drive within and outside the cities.
• Maintain confidentiality of any passenger’s discussions or phone conversations.
• Report accidents or incidents immediately to the supervisor and ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
• Perform any other task assigned by the Country Manager and/or supervisor.
Selection Criteria
• Minimum high school education certification or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of professional driving experience with an international organization/development agency.
• Excellent knowledge of road safety.
• Knowledge of general software applications e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Good communication skills in English (written and spoken)
• Knowledge of UN security system procedures and conversant with VHF Radio call will be an added advantage.
• Ability to work long hours and weekends.
• Personal commitment and high level of integrity.
• Must have a no-fault record for a road accident within the previous three (3) years.
• Committed team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural/disciplinary environment and able to produce high-quality work under pressure.
• Must be sufficiently trained, which shall include but is not limited to first aid skills, fuel efficient driving techniques (no sudden breaking/accelerating), training on defensive driving techniques (anti-carjacking) and knowledgeable in handling of emergency devices, e.g., fire suppression, etc. and should be familiar with the functions of the vehicle.
• Must provide a fit to drive medical clearance from a licensed local practitioner. Medical Requirement: Drivers must be medically fit for driving with acceptable vision as per statutory laws and have no permanent disability which can affect driving. Must be healthy and free from all communicable diseases
Essential Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Competencies
• Good decision-making skills, demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness and effective time management skills;
• Committed team player with demonstrated inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment;
• Ability to follow through on team priorities in the absence of the team leader and respond to requests for information;
• Familiarity with Kampala roads and environs, as well as the road network in Uganda in general
• Familiar with traffic rules and highway code.
• Must have a valid driving license (Class 4 driver’s license), certificates in defensive driving and first aid.
