The Energy and Environment Sector (Eof the UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina implements projects in the field of Climate Change Mitigation, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction and Environmental Development geared towards decreasing economic, social and territorial disparities and sustainable management of environmental and energy resources, and green jobs creation through coordinated approach by national and subnational actors. All interventions are released in close collaboration with relevant government stakeholders, other UN agencies, multilateral and bilateral donors, private sector and civil society.
In light of the above, and under the supervision of the Sector leader, the EE Sector Communications Analyst works in close collaboration with all the projects within the EE Sector, as well as with partner institutions and organizations, ensuring successful and effective communication and promotion of key EE Sector concepts and the attainted results.
EE Sector Communications Analyst, as a member of the UNDP Communications Unit, ensures coherent communication is executed in full cooperation and coordination with the UNDP Communications Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities
In close collaboration with the UNDP CO Communications Unit and the Head of the Communications Unit, the incumbent will be responsible to:
Guide project managers in design and implementation of the communication strategies and plans for the Sector and Sector projects:
- Conducts communications needs assessments for the EE sector as whole and projects;
- In coordination with Project Managers, develops communication strategies and plans for the EE sector, if required, and sector projects with clearly defined goals, as well as communication and advocacy instruments;
- Proactively develops ideas, proposes actions and provides advice for improved and coherent promotion of EE Sector results using the existing and new communication tools and channels, adequate for targeted audiences;
- Ensures alignment of sectoral and project communication strategies, plans and activities with UNDP CO communication strategies, plans and guidelines, in close cooperation with Communications Unit;
- Ensures effective implementation of the sectoral and projects’ communication strategies and plans;
- Ensures effective and timely information exchange between the EE Sector and Communications Unit on all aspects related to communication plans and activities;
- Provides inputs related to sectoral communications plans, actions and results to the Head of Communications Unit.
Manage public relations and communication activities for the Sector and Sector projects:
- Manages public relations (Pevents and campaigns related to the sector/sector projects;
- Ensures all EE Sector communications products are produced in line with UNDP CO standards and guidelines;
- Aligns all EE sector PR activities with the UNDP CO Communications Unit public relations activities;
- Monitors media and informs designated sectoral staff and the Head of Communications Unit on issues relevant to the programme and UNDP in general;
- Produces (writevarious types of PR and communication materials, including but not limited to media advisories, press releases, opeds, briefing materials, talking points (for senior UNDP staf, blogposts, web articles, posts for social networks, etc.
- Coordinates production of all communications materials related to the EE Sector in general and projects (including but not limited to production of videos, photo essays and design tasks, as per project activities nee;
- Continuously tracks media trends and activities related to energy efficiency, climate adaptation, climate mitigation, disaster risk reduction and environmental development in BiH and in UN system;
- Acts as a sector projects’ spokesperson, when required;
- Contributes to mitigation of communication risks and supports crisis communication activities in coordination with the Head of the Communications Unit;
- Provides timely and effective responds to media inquiries, in coordination with the Head of the Communications Unit;
- Moderates sector and sector projects’ events/conferences when/if required;
- Provides periodical and ad hoc reports on EE Sector projects’ communication plans, activities and results to Head of the Communications Unit;
- Provides input and supports communications actions and activities of high importance to the UNDP CO, when required.
Administrate relevant EE Sector website subpages and social media:
- Administrates EE sector’s section within UNDP CO webpage and produces EE related content for UNDP webpage and social networks;
- Develops EE sector projects’ weekly and monthly plans for online communications and implements them;
- Contributes to overall UNDP online presence through regular coordination and production of tailored content;
- Develops communications content tailored for online channels;
- Ensures that the use of online channels is in line with UNDP HQ and CO global guidelines and best practices.
Facilitate to gender equality mainstreaming within the Sector:
- Ensures gender equality mainstreaming in every communication related to the sector projects’ implementation;
- Ensures that all communications material and media relate to sector are gender sensitive and evaluated from the gender point of view.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Institutional Arrangement
The Communications Analyst works under direct supervision of Sector Leader and in close collaboration with Project teams within Sector and Country Office Communications Unit.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Master degree or equivalent in Media and Communications, Journalism, Political Sciences, Social Sciences or related field is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in the areas stated above, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of Master’s degree.
Experience:
- Applicants with a Master’s degree (or equivalenin a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience.
- Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalenare required to have a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience.
Languages:
- Fluency in English and Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian is required.
Required skills:
- Experience in producing communication materials for print and online media is required.
- Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and advanced knowledge of webbased management systems such as ERP is required.
- Experience and excellent knowledge of the media landscape in Bosnia and Herzegovina is required.
- Experience and general understanding of BiH energy and environment issues and global Climate Change Mitigation, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster risk Reduction and Environmental Development is required.
Desired skills:
- Proficiency in Multimedia Tools: Experience with multimedia tools and software for creating and editing visual and audio content (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Canvwill be an asset.
- Social Media Management: Proven experience in managing and growing social media accounts, including content creation, community engagement, and analytics will be an asset.
- Prior UN experience will be an asset
