Position: Education Officer
Reports to: Education Coordinator when in duty station, on deployment will report to Area Manager of the area
Supervision of: Education project activities in all NRC target sites in Mai-tsebri and nearby locations.
Duty station: Mai-tsebri Office
Travel: 50%
Duration and type of contract: Fixed-term contract
The Education Officer will lead the implementation of Education project activities at zonal and Woreda level. She/he will work closely with the Regional Education Bureau and Woreda Education Office, cluster supervisors and school directors. She/he will closely work with the Education Project Coordinator in developing and implementing a project detailed implementation plan and making necessary project amendments.
Generic Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines and standards.
- Ensure the day-to-day implementation of projects/activities and build the capacity of teachers to apply learning methodologies in targeted schools.
- Strengthen coordination between IDPs, host communities, and government structures through oversight of the educational systems and coordination mechanisms.
- Work with the Education Project Coordinator to develop innovative approaches and develop research products on key areas of host community and IDP education to support advocacy.
- Ensure integration of other NRC Core Competency programs with education programs/projects.
- Work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation team and support or implement necessary M&E activities to measure progress against logframe indicators.
- Provide feedback and share lessons learned from project implementation and financial reports.
- Monitor and systematically document project results jointly with partners and stakeholders.
- Represent NRC Education as necessary at Zonal and Woreda level education cluster meetings on areas related to the project and upon delegation.
- In cooperation with the Education Project Coordinator, ensure proper documentation of project experiences and lessons learned, best practices and achievements
- Work closely with project partners to effective and timely implementation of the programming.
Specific Responsibilities
- Report to the Education Coordinator on all activities related to the education projects and other appropriate duties assigned by the Coordinator.
- Work with local education actors in all NRC intervention Zones and support all planned Education in Emergencies (EiE) activities within the portfolio.
- Travel to project sites to follow up on project activities, provide support on the ground, and assess new and ongoing needs.
- Establish a smooth relationship with stakeholders including government and community structures to ensure effective coordination and support is directed to service delivery.
- Deliver school-based mentoring and coaching for outcome-based assessment for learning in targeted schools.
- Conduct a survey about community views on the standard and quality of schools as well as community participation in the relevant planning and service delivery process of the education projects.
- Prepare timely weekly, monthly and quarterly reports or ad hoc progress reports in compliance with internal NRC requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
- Ensure close cooperation with the other Education project staff, ensuring staff are clear on the work plan, priorities, and weekly schedules.
- In consultation and coordination with the Education Project Coordinator and Communications and Campaigns team, support the development of child protection and education related communication materials and briefs as necessary.
Competencies

Context related skills, knowledge and experience:
- University degree in either Education, Educational Leadership and Management, Curriculum Development, Teaching, or a closely related field in the Social Sciences (significant experience in lieu will be considered)
- Previous experience from working in complex contexts and far to reach areas
- Understanding of education challenges within the context
- Fluent in Tigrigna, both written and verbal
