The mandate of the External and Corporate Relations (ECVice Presidency is to strengthen the World Bank Group’s (WBdevelopment impact by increasing public support for, and awareness of, the mission and work of the WBG. ECR manages stakeholder engagement and communications strategies to help deliver financial and political support to the WBG, while enhancing and protecting the reputation of the institution. ECR manages global engagement with key stakeholders, including media, civil society, private sector, donor countries, and multilateral and international organizations; and manages corporate communications, including online and social media; issues and reputational risk management; and employee engagement.
The World Bank’s Infrastructure and Digital Transformation Communications team (ECRIis part of ECR and supports the Infrastructure Practice Group, which is charged with developing sustainable solutions to help close infrastructure gaps in developing and emerging economies. The Infrastructure and Digital Transformation Vice Presidential Units (VPUincludes Digital Development; Energy & Extractives; Infrastructure Finance, PPPs & Guarantees; Transport; Urban, Resilience and Land; and Digital Development. ECRIN is looking for a dynamic and experienced communications consultant who will be tasked with raising the profile of the two Vice Presidencies, both within and outside the WBG, and will provide stakeholder engagement and campaigns support across the ECRIN Communications team.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The Extended Term Consultant (ETwill have strong experience in developing and implementing communications strategies. This person will be part of the ECRIN communications team and reports to the ECRIN Manager, while working closely with the Communications Leads and Business Line Focal Points. The ETC is expected to be based in Washington, DC.
Duties will include:
•In coordination with colleagues across the institution, support the crafting of key positioning speeches or presentations for senior leadership, including by identifying additional relevant internal and external research, analysis, and trends.
•Support planning, coordination, and implementation of highlevel meetings, events, and missions for the Vice Presidents and Global Departments and contribute to a continuous dialogue across relevant stakeholder constituencies; participate in and provide readouts from various related events/meetings.
•Monitor global political and economic trends and developments of general infrastructure and relevant development topics in major international news outlets, technical publications, wire services, broadcast, and social media.
•Gather and analyze information and identify potential opportunities for thematic positioning in public fora and monitor for potential risk to the WBG’s reputation.
•Develop impact stories, social media content and talking points around initiatives carried out by the two VPUs and the Global Departments within their purview.
•Write and edit blogs and results stories.
•As needed, support the ECRIN unit with other ad hoc projects or tasks.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
•Design and implement a new communication plan for the Chief Economist for Infrastructure and Digital Transformation: Support the implementation of the communication plan for the Chief Economist, showcasing new economic research and engaging stakeholders, including production and scale up of its blog series.
•Support leadership staff engagement, internal communications, and overall team coordination. Collaborate with the ECRIN team to create and manage regular internal communications medium important updates and achievements within the Infrastructure and Digital Transformation VicePresidencies, enhancing staff connectivity.
•Develop communications campaigns for flagships, including email marketing component, social media design and copy, outreach strategies, etc., to showcase new research, thought leadership and impact of flagship knowledge products.
•Develop data visualizations and storytelling products for different Global Departments, ensuring institutional alignment and effective/innovative communication of the narrative and main messages.
•Coordination of the Result Stories in collaboration with OPCS and relevant units, to showcase progress in addressing critical development issues and making a positive impact on people’s lives across various topics and locations.
Selection Criteria
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant discipline (communications, journalism, international affairs, or other related field.
•Excellent written communication and experience writing in a clear, concise, and webfriendly style.
•Creative and knowledge of graphic design and video editing software will be a plus.
•Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
•Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and detail oriented.
•Ability to work effectively within a team and collaboratively across units.
•Experience working on issues relating to infrastructure and digital transformation will be a plus.
