The Communications Department is the IMF’s center for strategic communication. It develops and coordinates the Fund’s external and internal communications strategy, shapes key messages, and advises Management and staff on how best to convey those messages to the institution’s different audiences and stakeholders. The Department also monitors and responds to what is being said and written about the institution, both inside and outside the Fund.

The Communications Department (COis seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Communications Officer to join its Internal Communications Division (COMI. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of IMF policies and operations, be familiar with its intranet platform and corporate sites governance, and have experience in Fundwide knowledge management initiatives, including training.

COMIN is responsible for developing and implementing the Fund’s internal communications strategy to keep staff informed about institutional policies and programs, as well as workplacerelated developments, while promoting a sense of community and shared mission within the Fund. COMIN helps shape institutional messages and advises senior management and staff on internal communication using multiple platforms, including videos, events and podcasts. The division works closely with other departments to coordinate internal events and communications activities. COMIN also manages the IMF Intranet homepage, and the Intranet News articles, notices, videos, and podcast that are featured there.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision the Division’s Management, the candidate’s will:

  • Contribute to the division strategy, by enhancing strategic communication and staff engagement on institutional and corporate priorities through various platforms and initiatives.
  • Actively contribute to the COMIN digital team, including in implementing the new intranet. Lead the governance around the “Key Issues” corporate pages and collaborate with the Strategy, Policy and Review Department (SPand key stakeholders to manage the priorities pages under “Key Issues”.
  • Coordinate the updates and maintenance of the Office of the Managing Director intranet site, as well as critical corporate pages.
  • Help strengthen community building and boost staff engagement through innovative digital and social communication platforms and channels, including the INSIDER series.
  • Manage and lead highlevel internal events, including with Management participation, to help align staff with the Fund’s priorities and foster a sense of community.
  • Draft and review key institutional products, including memos, talking points, and intranet articles.
  • Represent COMIN in matrix teams, particularly on climate change efforts and the Annual Meetings, to lead their internal communication efforts.
  • Contribute to other divisional and departmental efforts as needed.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • An advanced university degree, or equivalent in communications, international relations, economics, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent is required. Alternatively, a university degree, or equivalent, and ten (10) years of relevant professional experience are required.
  • Strong understanding of global economic issues as well as the IMF’s role, mandate, operations and policies is essential.
  • Experience in corporate knowledge management initiatives.
  • Experience with SharePoint 16, SharePoint Online, Google Analytics, Adobe Acrobat & Adobe Campaign required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with good judgement and an ability to communicate persuasively.
  • Demonstrated teamwork ability; ability to handle sensitive matters with good judgment and diplomacy; proven ability to manage short deadlines and balance overlapping requests.
  • Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.

This vacancy shall be filled by a 3year Term appointment in accordance with the Fund’s new employment rules that took effect on May 1,

A regular staff member who is selected to fill the vacancy will maintain their openended status. If the selected candidate is a contractual employee, they will be offered a Term staff appointment. Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term but may receive an extension provided that their current term appointment has not already been extended.
