The Innovation and Education (IVProgramme is a thematic area of UNUIAS, aiming to promote research and practices
on innovative and inclusive education and lifelong learning for sustainable development at all ages. It reinforces evidencebased policy advice to translate global goals into local actions with a close alignment with the Education for Sustainable
Development (ESfor 2030 Roadmap. One of the main activities is to strengthen the capacity of UNUIAS global and
regional networks, namely the Regional Centres of Expertise on ESD
(RCEs: https://www.rcenetwork.org/portal/) and ProSPER.Net (https://prospernet.ias.unu.edu/), and collaborate with the
networks to facilitate multistakeholder partnerships.

Responsibilities

Terms of Reference or Work Assignment:
Under the general supervision of the UNUIAS Director and the direct supervision of the Head of Innovation and Education
Programme (IV, the consultant shall deliver the following assignments:

 

Conduct an analysis of RCE projects’ trends (20202024) and collaborate to develop the chapter for the 20year RCE publication in collaboration with an IVE researcher

  • Compile the data, specially RCE project reports from 2020 to 2024;
  • Analyze the data, using the report ‘RCE Project Trends during the Global Action Programme on ESD (20152019) ‘as a reference;
  • Draft a chapter on RCE project trends, presenting survey findings, synthesizing the results from the previous analysis in the GAP period and the current data analysis, to be included in the 20year RCE publication as a coauthor.
Provide overall advice on developing the 20year RCE publication
  • Advise on the conceptualization, table of contents, content selection, and identification of suitable RCEs for the 20year RCE publication to be published around July 2025;
  • Provide recommendations on the timeline for preparation and completion of the publication, as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisors, if necessary.

Qualifications

1) Education and certification

Ph.D. in education, educational technology, environmental science, social science international development or other relevant fields is required.

2) Required skills and experience

  • PhD degree with 3 years of professional and/or project experience in communitybased ESD, education for 2030 agenda, Global Action Programme, and other ESD related areas;
  • Firsthand experience with the ESD networks (e.g. Regional Centre for Expertise on ESis an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct surveys, analyse collected data, and write reports to share findings with a broad audience;
  • Extensive experience in editing publications for international agencies, including UN agencies;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, to complete them within a limited time frame and to handle multiple concurrent activities;
  • A good team player with strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural, multiethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
  • Work experience in international organizations or promoting major international initiatives.

3) Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge in Japanese and knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.

The payment will be made upon satisfactory performance and deliverables as follows: A total of USD 2,814 (Maximuwill be paid upon completion of data analysis and submitting the finalised draft for the chapter on RCE project trend (20152024) of the 20year RCE publication and enhanced draft of the publication certified by the supervisors by 15 February

Travel considerations

Should “mission travel” be required, UNU will pay for travel. However, this will be subject to the following prerequisites: Medical Clearance, Security Clearance through the Travel Request Information Process (TRIsystem, completion of the BSAFE online course, travel Visa, and liability waiver. Trip prerequisites will be met at the expense of the consultant.

Travel cost will be calculated based on economy class travel, regardless of the length of travel. Costs for accommodation, meals and incidentals must not exceed applicable daily subsistence allowance (DSrates, as promulgated by the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC at http://icsc.un.org).
