Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is a technical agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. The Organization’s three main goals are the eradication of hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition; the elimination of poverty and the driving forward of economic and social progress for all; and, the sustainable management and utilization of natural resources, including land, water, air, climate and genetic resources for the benefit of present and future generations.

The FAO Representation in South Sudan is organized around three main units: Programme, Operations, and Administration. The current portfolio of projects in South Sudan includes activities related to Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Natural Resource Management, and is implemented with humanitarian, transitional, and development funding.

Reporting Lines

The Grievance Redress Mechanism (GMAssistant works under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative for South Sudan, in close coordination with the Social Risk Specialist and direct supervision of Head of Field Office.

 

Tasks and responsibilities

•    Form and train Grievance Redress and Accountability committees at Boma levels within his/her area of operation for all projects
•    Collect feedback and complaints from FAO beneficiaries through feedback desks and suggestion boxes, compile and submit the feedback and complains to the helpline operator and communicate to the beneficiaries responses from the technical team.
•    Work with FAO’s implementing partner to ensure feedback desks and suggestion boxes are available at all FAO project sites
•    Create awareness within the local community on FAO Grievance and Feedback mechanisms
•    Ensure that FAO beneficiaries are served with dignity (convenience and protection issues must be considere
•    Support implementing Partners during information provision to ensure the right information on inputs is provided (type, quantity, targeting, voucher value etc.) using Megaphones, Visual Aid and in language familiar to them.
•    Ensure in all locations GBV Audits, safety and security assessments is conducted and report submitted to the Gender officer and Social Risk Specialist.
•    Create awareness on GBV referral pathways among FAO beneficiaries on in order for to be able to report any GBV related to FAO support.
•    Work with the M&E team at field level to ensure all grievances registered during PDM are captured in the GRM data base, analyses and responded to appropriately and timely,
•    Support implementation of FAO’s prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEwork plan, together with PSEA National and field focal points.
•    Follow up with local radios stations to ensure FAO Public Service Announcement (PSare broad casted in appropriate times.
•    Ensure FAO Visibility items are clearly displayed at distribution and ITF pointsAAP banners, FAO banners
•    Represent FAO in field technical working group on protection, GBV and gender and coordinate with other protection actors in their location to understand the protection needs of beneficiaries.
•    Support community dialogues for timely dissemination of project information within his/her area of operation.
•    Ensure active collaboration, information sharing and joint meetings with local authorities and other stakeholders to identify and strengthen support for project activities.
•    Support any Gender related work at the field level upon training on FAO Gender mainstreaming.
•    Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor

Minimum Requirements

•    University degree in rural development, gender studies, sociology, psychology, social psychology, anthropology, development studies, political science, international relations, training and development, or other relevant field
•    Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the following areas: accountability to affected people, communitybased development and participatory approaches, creating awareness and monitoring of projects and activities from a gender lens, implementation of humanitarian and development projects, awareness of overall grievance mechanism/accountability to affected population governance structure
•    Working knowledge of English (level and working knowledge (level of one local language is an advantage
•    National of South Sudan
