JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
Timeliness and quality of the translated documents to and from English and in Myanmar language (Burmese). All text should be in a form that has been proofread, free from errors and ready for use. Respect for security and confidentiality with regards to all aspects of work assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities
The recruitments will proceed during the course of 2024-2025 and the contract duration may vary, depending on the needs of the Mechanism. Under the direct supervision of the Language Services Support Section (LSSS) of the Independent Investigative Mechanism on Myanmar, the translator shall be responsible for: • provide accurate translation from the Myanmar language (Burmese) to the English language, and vice versa as required by the Mechanism of documents and materials that will be provided on an ad-hoc basis. • discuss periodically with the Mechanism’s LSSS about lexicons and other language issues. • perform other tasks pertaining to the use of the Myanmar language (Burmese) as may be required.
Qualifications/special skills
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience translating from the Myanmar language (Burmese) into the English language, and vice versa, is required Experience in an international criminal court or international accountability mechanism, or in a national court or tribunal dealing with international crimes is desirable. Experience in translating legal, criminal investigative documents or information is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English and the Myanmar language (Burmese) is required. Knowledge in one or more of the other language used in Myanmar (such as Chin, Karen, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya or Shan) is desirable.
