BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Communications Officer (Digital Content & Engagement) will deliver the day-to-day updating, functionality, and continuous improvement of the School Meals Coalition’s website and other online interventions. This role includes drafting, reviewing, editing, and auditing content to identify areas of improvement to enhance the audience’s user experience (UX) on the website, in addition to packaging high-quality multimedia content and campaigns for digital platforms. This includes, but is not limited to, web pages, one-pagers, reports, policy briefs, articles, video scripts, social media content, and other advocacy and communications materials that align with the Coalition’s strategic goals.
Reporting to the Communications & External Engagement Officer, this role involves working closely with WFP country offices, governments and partners, and School Meals Coalition Secretariat leadership to help coordinate global, regional, and national advocacy and communication efforts. This includes campaigns, events, innovation, and public engagement strategies related to school meals. The goal is to ensure coordinated action and impactful advocacy at critical junctures, particularly about improving access to nutritious and healthy school meals worldwide.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Lead on website management.
2.Write, edit and regularly update the content on the School Meals Coalition’s website.
3.Ensure website content is up-to-date, accurate, and engaging.
4.Coordinate with web developers, designers and multimedia producers to implement new features and improvements.
5.Monitor website analytics and adjust content strategies to improve engagement and reach, providing monthly and quarterly reports.
6.Align the website with the School Meals Coalition’s brand, strategy and standards.
7.Manage search engine optimization and implement strategies to improve website presence and increase web traffic in liaison with WFP’s website content management teams
8.Evaluate other websites and align with current industry best practices.
9.Liaising with WFP staff, especially regional and country offices, governments, and partners, to develop, write, and/or edit web and digital content, including articles, blog posts, policy briefs and other written content, that effectively communicates the School Meals Coalition and its members/partners’ strategic goals, priorities, and initiatives. Particular focus on country-led evidence and impact.
10.Support the drafting and coordination of multimedia content creation, including videos, infographics, and social media posts. Audit content to remove duplicate information.
11.Collaborate with subject matter, policy, advocacy and communication experts and representatives to ensure content accuracy and relevance, including WFP staff, member countries, and partners.
12.Support the development of government—and partner-led communications and related toolkit packages for events and interventions.
13.Ensure all content aligns with the School Meals Coalition’s messaging, branding guidelines, and government commitments.
14.Support campaigns and design web pages for key events hosted by governments and partners and regional and international initiatives on school meals.
15.Using input from across the Coalition Secretariat and guidance from the Communications & External Engagement Officer, maintain a content calendar to ensure timely publication of materials.
16.Review and edit content created by other team members or external contributors.
17.Assist in organizing and promoting online events, webinars, and other digital engagements.
18.Support the production of newsletters and other email communications.
19.Provide content input on WFP intranets and relevant external pages.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
• Update website content daily, ensuring 100% completion rate of planned updates.
• Provide monthly and quarterly analytics reports with actionable insights, achieving at least a 10% increase in user engagement quarterly.
• Conduct quarterly reviews to ensure 100% alignment with the Coalition’s brand and strategy guidelines.
• Increase organic web traffic by 3% each quarter through SEO strategies.
• Publish at least four high-quality articles, blog posts, or policy briefs per month, with an engagement rate of 5%.
• Produce and publish two multimedia content pieces (videos, infographics, social media posts) per month.
• Develop and distribute at least three communication toolkit packages per quarter for events and interventions.
• Ensure 100% of content aligns with the Coalition’s messaging and branding guidelines.
• Design and launch web pages for at least three key events or initiatives annually.
• Maintain high on-time publication rate for all scheduled content.
• Support and promote at least four online events or webinars annually, each achieving a minimum attendance of 200 participants.
• Support the production and distribution of monthly newsletters, achieving an open rate of 25% and a click-through rate of 5%.
• Provide content input for WFP intranets and external pages, ensuring updates are completed within a 48-hour turnaround time.
• Support the development of talking points for senior leadership and other related content every quarter.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
University degree in communications, public relations, journalism or similar experience combined with University degree in International Development.
Experience:
At least 5 years of experience in content management, digital communications and engagement, or a related role
Knowledge & Skills:
-Proven experience writing and editing high-quality policy briefs, articles, and multimedia content as well as experience in building digital engagement strategies. -Strong editorial and proofreading abilities. Attention to detail to identify potential misinformation or duplicate content. – Problem solving to analyze situations, determine causes and provide solutions. – Proficiency in web analytics tools and content management systems. -Familiarity with SEO best practices and social media platforms. -Ability to work independently and as part of a team. -Ability to multitask without compromising quality of any task. -Strong organizational and project management skills.
– Experience managing websites and external web design teams and using content management systems (CMS).
Desirable:
– Experience in policy, advocacy or working with coalitions and non-profits. – Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web design principles. – Knowledge of graphic design and video editing software. – Knowledge of food security, education, and humanitarian issues is desirable.
Languages:
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
