Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the Protocol and Liaison Service of the Office of the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) with an expected start date as of 8 January 2024, for a duration of a minimum of three and maximum of six months. The intern will work directly with the Chief of Protocol and the Senior Protocol Assistant to provide assistance with following tasks: Responsibilities: – Preparation and coordination of activities of the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, when visiting Geneva. – Preparation for the participation of Heads of State/Government, Ministers for Foreign Affairs, and other high-level officials to meetings at UNOG. – Organization of luncheons/dinners/receptions and other social events hosted by the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, and the Director-General. – Arranging Credential and Nomination ceremonies for Permanent Representative-designates / Permanent Observer-designates. – Updating and publishing of the “Blue Book “- a listing of diplomatic members of permanent missions and permanent observer missions accredited to the United Nations Office at Geneva. – Issuance of United Nations passes for personnel of permanent missions of Member States and permanent observer missions accredited to the United Nations Office at Geneva. – Responding to e-mail and telephone enquiries.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, and MS Teams is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English OR French is required for the internship. Knowledge of any additional official UN language is an asset.
