ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT.
Located in UNHCR Headquarters, Geneva Switzerland, the Ethics Office was established in June 2008 to assist the Secretary General and the High Commissioner in ensuring that all staff members observe and perform their functions consistent with the highest standards of integrity required by the UN Charter, staff regulations and rules, and relevant guidelines and policies.
The UNHCR Ethics Office has the following key responsibilities:
• Provide confidential guidance to UNHCR staff to ensure practical implementation of UNHCR’s policies, procedures and practices relating to ethical standards called for under the UN Charter, Staff regulations and rules and UNHCR’s Code of Conduct.
• Managing and support the UNHCR Code of Conduct Dialogue sessions in the Field and at Headquarters to foster an ethical culture in the Organization.
• Implementing the Policy against retaliation for reporting misconduct (Whistleblower).
• Administering the United Nations Financial Disclosure Programme
• Develop policies, guidelines, tools and training programs to implement Ethics Office mandate. The Ethics Office on an ongoing basis undertakes analysis of its achievements and conducts risk assessment to be more responsive and supportive to country level operations. It holds consultations with relevant Bureaus/Division/Units, with colleagues in the Field and at Headquarters on issues for which their inputs and experiences are required
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR ?
We are looking for a dynamic, creative and tech-savvy intern who has experience in communications, graphic design, video-editing and data analysis to support the day-to-day implementation of
communication, data and learning plans of the Ethics Office.
Though the incumbent will support all areas of work, he/she will report to the (Senior) Ethics Adviser.
The candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced and reactive environment, have the skills and ability to support on creating content, presentations and articles and competent in using Microsoft Office, graphic design and data visualization tools.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Design and enhance the visual look and feel of key documents using UNHCR brand guidelines and the Ethics Office campaign assets;
2. Research and craft creative and engaging editorial content, such as articles, colleagues’ profiles and Intranet materials in collaboration with other entities and operations;
3. Support communication campaigns for the launch of new products, including the 2025 Code of Conduct Dialogue awareness campaign;
4. Support intranet/Sharepoint authoring, and update intranet/Sharepoint content and webpages;
5. Generate engagement of Viva Engage/SharePoint Community for Code of Conduct facilitators through linking news items, posting announcements of interest, sharing best practices, answering comments;
6. Produce multimedia materials including animated visuals and videos using UNHCR’s video templates;
7. Generate summary, reports or dashboards using tools such as Google Analytics, Power BI and Sharepoint;
8. Support in planning, promoting and executing events such as webinars to enhance organizational outreach and engagement;
9. Undertake any other tasks assigned.
Minimum qualifications and professional experience required :
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the organization, in this case communications or related field.
• Demonstrated interest in humanitarian cause or previous experience working with non-profit organizations.
Please note that candidates who have immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working as staff members of UNHCR are not eligible.
Other qualifications :
• University studies completed preferably in journalism, communications, public information, media studies, international relations or related fields
• Strong drafting skills with the ability to craft engaging and clear content for various platforms
• Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• Basic video editing skills and familiarity with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar)
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively
• Experience in analytics tools like Google Analytics or Power BI is a plus
• Fluency in English (written and oral). Knowledge of French or another UN language is an asset
