INTRODUCTION TO GGGI

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. To learn more please visit about GGGI web page.

GGGI’s country program in Kiribati started in 2017 with the goal to help Kiribati address critical development challenges – particularly a constrained agriculture sector which in turn is closely linked to poor nutrition, health and food security – and achieve goals prioritized in the Kiribati 20-Year Vision 2016-2036 (KV20), the Joint Implementation Plan for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (KJIP), and NDC.

GGGI collaborates with the Kiribati Ministry of Environment, Land, and Agriculture (MELAD) to support agriculture sector planning and development. This includes improving food security, public health outcomes, and fostering green growth led by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. Moreover, GGGI works with the Ministry of Finance & Economic Development (MFED) to mobilize and absorb climate investments. This includes acting as a Delivery Partner for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Program and regional projects with dedicated staff embedded within MFED.
