On 29 May 1948, the United Nations Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1948) called for a cessation of hostilities in Palestine and established the first peacekeeping mission headed by a UN Mediator with the assistance of a group of military observers to be known as the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO’s mandate covers five countries, including Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. This position is located in the Security Section of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in Jerusalem. The field Security Assistant reports to a senior Security Officer. S/he will assist with data consolidation and dissemination of relevant security information; Assists with the preparation of any security related documents; Provides support during the implementation of the Security Plan; assists with the preparation of the Training courses, related presentations and documents.
Responsibilities
Under the overall direction of the Chief Security Officer, and the direct supervision of the Guard Force Supervisor, the Field Security Assistant will perform the following functions: • Ensures the safety and protection of UN Personnel and property in UNTSO HQ premises; • Assists the Security Officer /Team Leader in the screening of all visitors, staff members, packages and vehicles entering UN complex to ensure authorized access and compliance with Access Control Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); • Provides continuous coverage of cameras, telephone and radio communications systems and associated recording pieces of equipment; • Monitors, identifies and reports security and safety breaches and issues in accordance with existing procedures on a continuous basis, in order to contribute to the overall security of UN staff, diplomats, visitors, premises, property etc. within UNTSO HQ premises; • Prepares incident report, maintains main gate logbooks and submits them in a timely manner. • Performs security related driving assignments as required. • Carries out other Security and Safety type functions including but not limited to, first aid, firefighting etc. as may be required and renders clear crisis/emergency response support; • Checks and verifies the identification and purpose of all persons seeking entry to UNTSO in accordance with existing UN rules and regulations, UNTSO SOPs and including instructions that may be given by the Chief Security Officer, Guard Force Supervisor and Team Leader as required. • Provides static security at fixed posts and entry points to UNTSO HQ compound, recording particulars as appropriate of vehicle information, cargo manifests and other pertinent information as required. • Undertakes regular foot and vehicle security patrols within HQs compound, main building and along the compound perimeter fence, as required in accordance with standing instructions. • Provides essential information and guidance to all UN personnel as required. • Performs shift duties, (to include afternoons, morning and nights which requires long periods of standing) and any other duties and responsibilities as may be required and so assigned by the Chief Security Officer or his designated official.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Specialized Security training/courses are desirable.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid driver’s license in Israel and West Bank is required (attach a copy of your license). Specialized Security training/courses are desirable. The ability to drive manual shift vehicles is desirable. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in Security related areas such as Police, Military Experience or international organization is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in access control procedures is required. Experience within the UN Security Service is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Working knowledge of Arabic and/or Hebrew (read, speak and understand) is desirable. NOTE: ”Fluency” equals a rating of ”fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ”Knowledge of” equals a rating of ”confident” in three of the four areas.
