Mission and objectives
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) was inaugurated in May 2013, it is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and serves 45 Country Offices in sub-Saharan Africa. The UNDP RSCA develops high quality knowledge and policy, and is the organisation’s main interface with regional and continental bodies such as the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities. Our experts support UNDP Country Offices and manage a host of regional programmes and projects in different countries across the continent. The Center also implements a continent-wide Regional Programme supporting Africa’s transformation agenda.
Context
The Regional Programme for Africa is a flagship UNDP programme that responds to challenges and opportunities facing the African continent and to the priorities and aspirations of Africa as articulated by the African Union and other regional organs. Based at the Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) in Addis Ababa, we collaborate and coordinate with UNDP sub-regional hubs operating out of Dakar, Nairobi and Pretoria and work closely with the AU, Regional Economic Communities (RECs)/Regional Mechanisms (RMs) and other regional actors across the continent. Endorsed by UNDP’s Executive Board in February 2022, the new Regional Programme Document for 2022-2025 operates as an integrated continental mechanism that coordinates regional, sub-regional and country development planning for greater effectiveness and results.
