JOBs TITLE: Communications Officer

DUTY STATION (City, Country): East Jerusalem, Palestine

DURATION:11 months, renewable

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

To define and implement WFP Palestine external Communications plans/activities that support overall Country Office goals and WFP objectives. This position is based in Jerusalem and will reports to the Head of Partnerships, Communications & Report.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Head of Partnerships, Communications and Reports unit, the incumbent will be responsible for:

1. Create a comprehensive communications strategy, aligned with WFP’s global objectives, to highlight WFP Palestine operations, favorably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and donors to raise WFP’s profile and support fundraising activities.

2. Develop and oversee the social media plan for Palestine Country Office to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities and manage the day-to-day handling of WFP social media channels.

3. Lead the development and dissemination of communication materials, including press releases, media briefings, articles, social media posts, reports, and other products that inform internal and external audiences about WFP’s response, needs or success stories.

4. Generate and/or facilitate the production of donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms.

5. Maintain and develop a contact list of journalists and media outlets and manage the regular flow of news/information about WFP Palestine work to the media, ensuring reputational risks are identified and managed.

6. Track and analyse traditional and online media, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities.

7. Collaborate with graphic designers and photographers to create compelling visual content. This includes frequent travel to conflict or disaster-affected areas.

8. Establish effective collaborations and partnerships with internal and external counterparts to enforce a coherent communications approach, align activities, and close collaboration of involved actors.

9. Other as required, including operational information management tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: Advanced university degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Experience: Five years or more experience in the field of Communications. Expertise in the delivery of Communications in complex emergency operations. Has provided strategic oversight of new projects and activities.

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of Arabic is an advantage.

Knowledge: &Skills:

Specialised knowledge in communications: Uses sound theoretical knowledge of communications concepts to generate or facilitate the production of effective communication materials across various media including social media.

Socio-political contextual understanding: Demonstrates deep understanding of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which influences approach to working, policy development and decision making.

Communication strategy and planning: Applies advanced understanding of WFP communications strategy and best practice to effectively develop strategies to engage with media and other significant external stakeholders within area of responsibility. Oversees implementation, providing recommendations for improvement.
