JOB DESCRIPTION

Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind. The main aim of the FAO Country Offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments in developing policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. The FAO Representation in Cambodia is based in Phnom Penh, and there are several Offices based in provinces throughout the country.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct guidance of the Communications Specialist, in collaboration with relevant FAO colleagues, the incumbent will be responsible for executing the assigned tasks within the communications unit.

Technical Focus

The Graphic Designer plays a key role in developing high-quality graphic designs and visibility materials, ensuring visually appealing and consistent communication products across FAO Representation in Cambodia’s six programmatic thematic areas.

Tasks and responsibilities

•    Utilize advanced graphic design skills to create layouts for project publications, fact sheets, booklets, leaflets, and other communication materials developed through the project;
•    Enhance and refine artwork, photographs, charts, and other visual elements to align with project standards;
•    Develop visibility materials such as T-shirts, caps, water bottles, etc;
•    Create functional and clear templates that can convey the product’s message without interfering with it;
•    Identify and develop an overall layout that suits the product type;
•    Work in consultation with the publication Editor and ensure that the layout fits the intended audience (from a technical, professional and cultural standpoint);
•    Submit design proposals, for the supervisor’s final approval;
•    Perform three rounds of corrections following OCC/PWS and divisional quality checks; rounds of corrections are to be increased should the incumbent overlook corrections;

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements   

•    University degree (or higher) in Communication, art, graphic design, or related field, or relevant technical training/qualification;
•    Working knowledge (level C or higher) of English;
•    Two years of experience in graphic design or related field;

Technical/Functional Skills 

•    Practical experience in graphic design, including the use of design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.)
•    Proven experience in graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and colour management
•    Knowledge of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms, as well as modern design trends such as infographics, quota gram, tableau, etc.
•    Knowledge and experience with websites and content management systems is an advantage
•    Good understanding of mass media and communication networks in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, livestock, forestry, climate change, environment, food safety etc.
•    Experience working with UN agencies and international organizations is an advantage
