UNDP Jordan’s 2023-2027 country programme seeks to support national efforts in enhancing people’s resilience in Jordan through robust interventions that increase people’s equal access to sustainable resources, enhance green growth opportunities, and advance democratic governance, implementing a portfolio approach cutting across three outcomes focused on systematic transformation in three priority areas: (a) prosperous and productive people; (b) green and safe future pathways for climate action; and (c) holistic and transformative systems/policies and capacities across all sectors.
The Green Pathways and Inclusive Growth Portfolio has been supporting GoJ to fulfill its commitments towards International Environmental Conventions, including the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD), and has launched many interventions in the Gulf of Aqaba to conserve Jordan`s unique biodiversity in landscapes and marine ecosystems. Support is primarily focused on enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of the newly established Aqaba Marine Reserve and addressing direct drivers to protect habitats and species. Among these initiatives are improving the management and operation system of the new Aqaba Marine Reserve, Enhance the conservation of the Aqaba Marine Reserve by improving capacity for effective management and the Gulf of Aqaba Resilient Reefs Programme
The UNDP Jordan Country Office is seeking to employ a full-time Communication and Multimedia Officer to support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of advocacy and communication campaigns, event coverage, and design needs for the UNDP Marine Programme in Aqaba. This position will operate under the supervision of the designated Project Manager and will require close collaboration and coordination with the UNDP Communication Analyst.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Communication and Multimedia Officer is required to deliver the following:
- Contribute to and collaborate on the development and implementation of communication and outreach/advocacy strategies,
- A specific emphasis on promoting coastal-ecosystem-related initiatives, including both marine and terrestrial conservation.
- Utilizing a multimedia production approach (photo, video, graphics, audio, text)
- Proposing creative, innovative ideas that align with new trends in web communication to highlight the Gulf of Aqaba’s marine and terrestrial coastal ecosystem conservation, preservation, restoration, ecosystem services, sustainable practices, local community involvement, and other relevant activities.
- Produce original multimedia content (photo, video, graphics, audio) to promote the Gulf of Aqaba’s marine and terrestrial program initiatives, including digital publications (graphic presentations, infographics, graphic reports/manuals), social media posts, and podcasts.
- Build and consolidate a reliable media portfolio and a set of promotional materials specifically for UNDP’s marine and terrestrial initiatives in the coastal ecosystem of Aqaba to foster collaboration and ensure visibility. Disseminate these materials to increase engagement and awareness of coastal-ecosystem-related activities.
- Design, develop, and implement communication and outreach products focused on marine conservation, sustainable fisheries, and other marine-specific projects` activities.
- Analyze social media channels and websites, generating reports based on monthly KPIs to optimize the media strategy with a focus on promoting coastal ecosystem (marine and terrestrial) initiatives. Use a data-driven approach to enhance visibility and engagement.
- Set KPIs related to awareness campaigns on both marine and terrestrial issues, e.g., community engagement metrics on habitat protection and the increase in positive media coverage on Gulf of Aqaba ecosystems.
The Communication and Multimedia Officer is expected to perform the following technical tasks with a focus on coastal-ecosystem-related content:
Communication Materials
- Contribute to and lead the implementation of the projects` communication strategy and work plan.
- Consolidate information and data from project staff and relevant national stakeholders to develop communication materials that highlight marine conservation efforts and achievements.
- Gather content related to effective coastal-ecosystem program activities and results.
- Develop community-specific coastal-ecosystem-related materials and activities.
- Support the production of communication materials, including projects` briefing notes, images, and videos.
- Draft and edit articles and human-interest stories for both online and web-based platforms.
- Oversee the production of advocacy and communication materials, ensuring quality control and alignment with UNDP and donors’ Communication and Branding guidelines.
- Recommend suitable communication materials for media and advocacy activities.
- Develop communication materials specifically focused on the conservation of the Aqaba coastal ecosystem including coral reefs, marine species, terrestrial, and community engagement for sustainable practices.
- Leverage established networks and resources to support communication activities focused on marine environment and conservation.
Media Relations
- Draft and edit articles, press releases, human-interest stories, and other media materials.
- Facilitate collaboration with the media, organizing project site visits, providing photo coverage, and utilizing multimedia channels to highlight UNDP marine program initiatives.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of media materials, while maintaining a comprehensive library of marine-related media coverage (photos, videos, and clippings) from various initiatives.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Conduct audience research and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts related to marine project initiatives.
- Conduct lessons learned reviews to refine communication strategies for future marine-related initiatives.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Institutional Arrangement
The Communication and Multimedia Officer will report to the Project Manager Marine and work in close collaboration and coordination with the UNDP Communication Analyst.
