UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the DAG of the Service under the UNHCR Jordan .

The Data Analysis Group (DAG) at UNHCR Jordan is committed to leading the operation in data-driven decision-making, with a focus on providing innovative solutions, reliable data, and actionable insights that empower, include, and protect refugees and other affected populations.
As an integral part of DAG’s reporting o team, the Data Science Intern role is designed to drive the unit’s initiatives into the new technological era. Aligned with DAG’s four main pillars—analysis and data management, support and information management, software management and support, and software and innovation—the intern will actively participate in projects that leverage data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to solve data analysis related challenges.

The position

The ideal candidate is a tech-savvy individual with a foundational understanding of data analytics and machine learning. Experience with Python or R programming and data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI is a plus. A strong passion for innovation and a commitment to using data for social good are essential.
Duties and responsibilities
Data Exploration and Analysis: Assist in cleaning, transforming, and analyzing diverse datasets to derive meaningful insights.
Machine Learning and Predictive Modeling: Work on developing, testing, and implementing predictive models to optimize UNHCR’s operations.
Report and Dashboard Development: Utilize data visualization tools to create intuitive dashboards and reports that inform strategic decision-making.
Innovation and Research: Engage in research activities to identify emerging technologies and methodologies that can benefit DAG’s objectives.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into data-driven solutions.

Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field Data Science, Computer science or relevant

Desirable qualifications and skills
• First Required Language is English at B2 level
• Basic understanding of data analytics and machine learning algorithms.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python or R.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar.

Conditions
It is a full/part-time role with working hours starting from 9.00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in location / home-based.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
