Mission and objectives

UNDP works in more than 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience to sustain development results. UNDP has been present in Malawi since 1964. Working closely with the Government of Malawi, civil society and the private sector, UNDP’ s work aims to contribute to economic growth, sustainable environmental management, and democratic governance and accountability in Malawi. UNDP’s Country Programme Document is closely aligned to the Malawi Agenda 2063 and supports Malawi’s aim to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. UNDP ‘s programme is designed to address the interlinked issues of poverty, inequality and vulnerability to shocks and is managed within two portfolios: Responsive Institutions and Citizen Engagement which works towards strengthening effective, accountable and inclusive governance that promotes civic engagement, respect for human rights, rule of law, peace and democracy. It also works towards strengthening data generation and analysis. Resilience and Sustainable Growth which focusses on enhancing economic innovation, inclusive business, job creation, and renewable energy access. It also works towards helping Malawi adapt to climate change and build resilience to disasters.

Context

UNDP Malawi’s Country Programme Document 2024-2028 is aligned to the Malawi’s development strategy and supports Malawi’s aim to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. UNDP ‘s programme is designed to address the interlinked issues of poverty, inequality and vulnerability to shocks and is managed within two portfolios: Governance portfolio which works towards strengthening effective, accountable, and inclusive governance that promotes civic engagement, digitization, respect for human rights, rule of law, peace and democracy. It also works towards strengthening data generation and analysis. Resilience and Sustainable Growth portfolio which focusses on enhancing economic innovation, inclusive business, job creation, and renewable energy access. It also works towards helping Malawi adapt to climate change and build resilience to disasters. Under the overall direct guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative and positioned within the Programme Management Support Unit (PMSU), and working closely with the Communications Units, the candidate facilitates the development of country office’s partnerships and knowledge management tools, research donor priorities and opportunities, manages funding pipeline, and preparation and management of standard briefing packs. The candidate will also work closely with M&E and communications team to support visibility. The candidate supports strategic communication functions, as necessary, as they related to partnership building. The candidate will also support the representational function of the CO leadership through document quality assurance.

Task Description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of UNDP-DRR or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Partnership, Knowledge Management & Communications Analyst will: 1. Support partnership and pipeline management: • Support implementation of the CO Partnership and Communication Action Plan • Research emerging sources of funding; assessment of their current usage and potential for the future. • Manage accurate and up to date pipeline. • Actively follow up with projects and portfolio managers to pursue pipelines. • Assessment of the level of CO engagement with each donor: type and level of contact and areas of interest. development of strategy to position the CO to become a priority partner for the donor. • Prepare briefing notes and talking points for High-Level Meetings with Partners. • Collaborate with communications unit on creating visibility for UNDP initiatives. • Monitor overall implementation of donor agreements. • Coordinate partnership surveys. • Coordinate implementation of past and future partnership surveys 2. Facilitates knowledge building, knowledge sharing, reporting and document management: • Oversees the implementation of the AI driven Knowledge Management Strategy in close collaboration with UNDP Accelerator Lab Unit and the Knowledge Management Taskforce. • Coordinate consolidation of inputs to documents, briefing packs, and speeches • Support CO effort to organize round table discussions, forums and high-profile events • Quality assurance and format documents to be submitted to UNDP HQ, Regional Bureau, and external parties. • Collaborate with M&E and AccLab units to generate lessons learned and good practice substantive documents and videos. • Quality assures all reports. • Prepare high quality data visualization (infographics, presentations, factsheets, reports) 3. Communication: • Identify and leverage opportunities for advocacy campaigns that align with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives. • Collect and curate stories that highlight the human impact of UNDP’s programmes and initiatives. • Work closely with programme teams to identify and develop compelling narratives that resonate with target audiences. • Create engaging multimedia content (written, visual, and audio) to showcase success stories, lessons learned, and community impacts. • Create engaging content for social media platforms to increase audience engagement and reach. • Monitor social media channels for trends, feedback, and audience interaction, adjusting strategies as necessary. • Plan, organize, and execute events (e.g., workshops, conferences, community outreach) that support UNDP’s visibility and advocacy efforts. • Collaborate with program teams to develop communication strategies that effectively convey program objectives, results, and impacts. 4. Project Management Support Unit (PMSU) • Support PMSU with M&E, Financial Oversight, Quality Assurance, Risk Assessment, Partnership and Resource Mobilization, Knowledge Management and Compliance. 5. Support impactful visual representation. • Develop compelling infographics. • Create impactful PowerPoint presentations. Results/expected outputs: – As an active UNDP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNDP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: – CO RM and partnerships building plans implemented to ensure sustainable funding base for the Malawi programme. – Donor specific and targeted resource mobilization strategies / plans in place in collaboration with portfolios – High quality partnership briefing documents produced for senior management engagement. – Projects have accurate and up to date information on donor country strategies – Lessons and knowledge sensitized to enhance partnerships and RM. – UNDP positioned as a credible and responsive partner
