Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator System encompasses all organizations of the UN system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General and leading the UN Country Team (UNCT) and assumes the overall responsibility for – and coordination of – the development activities of the UN system. The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in the DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (DRC) brings together all the UN entities working on sustainable development in the country and leads the United Nations Country Team (UNCT). Its main goal is to ensure joint planning and working together and ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government of DRC, through the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which guides the UN country team’s development program cycle, in joint agreement with the Government. The main functions of the resident coordinator office include but not limited to strategic analysis and planning; oversight of the UN country programming cycle; representation and support of UN Secretariat and UN Agencies including those without formal presence in DRC; support the national coordination systems and processes; development and management of shared operational support services; crisis management preparedness and response; external communication and advocacy; human rights and political Development; joint resource mobilization and fund management; and general UNCT oversight and coordination. Under the direct supervision of the RCO Economist, the intern will contribute specifically to economic research, including supporting the development of econometric models for evidence-based economic policy analysis. The intern will be responsible for finding a suitable location, IT stationery equipment, and internet facilities to connect frequently with the RCO Economist. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Responsibilities – Support the analysis of some sections of the RCO keys report such as the CCA updates or policy briefs; Supports the monitoring of SDG trends in DRC and in the region, with regular briefs; • Conduct literature reviews of macroeconomic research, methodologies, and synthesize the findings and insights. • Support the drafting of different documents or research reports (e.g. on SDG financing, Economic Transformation, Resilience, Diversification, and Job Creation etc…). • Assisting in preparing concept notes and short briefings in the above-mentioned areas; • Reviewing and commenting on research products and supporting their publication. • Support the development/ review of econometric models (e.g., forecasting, simulations) and macroeconomics analysis a (e.g., scenario analysis) to assess the impact of various development policies/interventions on the specific outcomes. • Conduct basic statistical analysis – such as time series analysis – using relevant software (e.g., Matlab, GAMS, EViews, R, Excel).
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English and French languages is required for this internship. Knowledge of another UN language would be desirable.
